The conference to summarize the 2023-2024 school year and deploy tasks for the 2024-2025 school year of the Ho Chi Minh City education and training sector took place this morning (August 16).

At the conference, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong said that in the conclusion dated August 12 on the implementation of Resolution 29 of 2013 of the Party Central Committee, the Politburo requested all levels to improve foreign language proficiency of students, gradually making English the second language in schools. In the near future, the Ministry of Education and Training will advise the Government to develop an action program to implement this conclusion.

Mr. Thuong suggested that Ho Chi Minh City proactively study the conclusions thoroughly for implementation. According to Mr. Thuong, in the new school year, the Department of Education and Training must summarize the English Project 5695.

"I will propose that the Department of Secondary Education and the Ministry of Education and Training coordinate and invite provinces and cities to participate in the summary so that they can learn from it and gradually make English a second language.

Currently, according to the project, math and science are taught in English, and will be expanded to other subjects in the future. However, to do this, there must be a roadmap and step-by-step construction, school by school. Ho Chi Minh City has the foundation and favorable conditions to do this," Mr. Thuong emphasized.

Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City - Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu said that the city is ready to take on the task of researching criteria and selecting a number of pilot schools to introduce English as a second language as soon as possible.
