On April 12, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City announced that it will provide specific guidance on organizing the 6th grade entrance exam for junior high schools enrolling students for the first time in the form of a student capacity exam in the districts, counties and Thu Duc City. It is expected that the 6th grade entrance exam dates of junior high schools in the districts, counties and Thu Duc City will not coincide with the exam dates of Tran Dai Nghia Junior High School and High School to create more opportunities for students.
Specifically, according to the Plan to mobilize children to attend classes and enroll them in the first grades of the 2024-2025 school year issued by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, enrollment in grade 6 based on student capacity assessment is expanded to junior high schools following the advanced and integrated model; schools with annual enrollment registration needs are many times larger than enrollment quotas.
Currently, the People's Committee of Thu Duc City and 21 districts are developing a plan to mobilize children to attend classes and enroll them in the first grades of the 2024-2025 school year. In particular, for secondary schools that enroll students in grade 6 by surveying students' abilities, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City will provide specific instructions for schools to comply with regulations and organize surveys in a spirit that does not cause pressure or inconvenience to parents.
According to the proposal of the localities, the survey date of secondary schools in the districts and Thu Duc City does not coincide with the survey date of Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School to create more opportunities for students.
Mr. Nguyen Thai Vinh Nguyen, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City, said that the expected survey questions at 3 junior high schools enrolling students in grade 6 in the form of student capacity survey in Thu Duc City this year, namely Tran Quoc Toan 1, Hoa Lu, Binh Tho, will be similar to the structure of the survey questions for grade 6 admission at Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted (from the 2023-2024 school year onwards) but at an easier level so as not to create pressure for parents and students.
"The exam ensures strict confidentiality procedures. The teachers selected to participate in creating the exam do not teach extra classes at centers to ensure objectivity and prevent exam questions from being leaked," said Mr. Nguyen Thai Vinh Nguyen.
A representative of the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City noted that parents should consider choosing a school for their children to register for the 6th grade survey near their place of residence for convenience in going to school after being admitted. Students who have registered for the survey at this school will not be allowed to register for the survey at another school to avoid fake records.
After participating in the survey, whether or not students are admitted to schools that recruit students based on the ability test, they will be assigned to public secondary schools in the area. Therefore, parents do not need to worry that their children who are not admitted to grade 6 of the secondary school that organizes the ability test will not have a place to study.
