HCMC recognized by UNESCO as a member of the global learning network

On the evening of March 30, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) held a ceremony to honor HCMC as a member of the global learning network by UNESCO.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council Nguyen Thi Le said that the city highly appreciates becoming an official member of the UNESCO Global Learning Cities Network. She sees this as an opportunity for all residents and the city government to continue to propose development action programs so that Ho Chi Minh City becomes a place where all residents, regardless of age or nationality, can continue to learn.

At the same time, creating an open learning environment where every citizen can develop the skills and knowledge needed to adapt and thrive in the digital world is an important step forward, affirming the city's commitment to lifelong learning and sustainable development.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Le, as a member of the Global Learning Cities Network, Ho Chi Minh City will make continuous efforts to ensure that all people have opportunities to learn and develop; commit to continue to cooperate closely with other members of the Global Learning Cities Network to share experiences, learn and build a better learning environment for everyone.

Ho Chi Minh City is ready for the journey towards a future where every citizen is a digital citizen, a global learning citizen. Not only together building a learning city, a learning community, a learning society, starting from the milestone of today's honoring ceremony. Ho Chi Minh City and friends in the system of members of the Global Learning Cities Network are united, joining hands to build a world of learning, development and sustainability.

According to Ms. Le, with the cooperation and support from UNESCO and members of the network, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to develop and rise to become a leading and prestigious educational center in the region, receiving high appreciation from the world.

At the program, Mr. Jonathan Wallace Baker, Chief Representative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in Vietnam, emphasized that UNESCO highly appreciated Ho Chi Minh City's implementation of action programs to promote a culture of learning to contribute to achieving the goal of quality education for all.

"UNESCO believes that Ho Chi Minh City becoming a member of this network is completely consistent with the national policy of building a learning society and promoting lifelong learning in the 2023-2030 period. In addition, Vietnam will continue to promote innovation in learning and promote lifelong learning opportunities," said Mr. Jonathan Wallace Baker.

At the ceremony, Ho Chi Minh City launched the implementation of the Action Program to build a "UNESCO Global Learning City for the period 2024 - 2030" in the city.

Previously, on February 14, Ho Chi Minh City was honored to be registered by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a member of the global network of learning cities.

On March 29, the Government Office issued Document No. 2082/VPCP-KGVX conveying the opinion of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha on submitting the "Mo Muong" and "Cheo Art" dossiers to UNESCO.
