On the morning of February 1, at the conference to review the first semester and deploy tasks for the second semester of the 2023-2024 school year for secondary education organized by the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Bao Quoc said that 2024 is a pivotal year of important significance for the development goals of the city's education.
Accordingly, the 2024-2025 school year is the last year the whole country completes the roadmap for rolling implementation of the 2018 General Education Program.
Along with that, the Ministry of Education and Training has announced a number of changes to the High School Graduation Exam from 2025, leading to many changes in teaching orientation for high school level.
In Ho Chi Minh City alone, the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year is expected to have some adjustments in the registration method.
In particular, the entire industry is implementing the construction of 50 digital schools and the Project to build 4,500 classrooms to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).
"To complete the set goals, schools must have a roadmap and a methodical implementation plan, avoiding formalities and coping. From the end of the 2023-2024 school year, schools will proactively develop educational plans, seek opinions to create consensus from parents before implementing in the 2024-2025 school year," said a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.
For admission to first-grade classes, schools need to organize counseling to help parents understand and choose to voluntarily participate in school programs, promote the "flexible classroom" model (no fixed subject combinations in each class) to best meet students' learning needs.
According to Pham Quang Tam, Deputy Head of the Secondary Education Department (Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training), the development and promulgation of school education plans must be specific and put into practice in the unit's operations. The organization of extracurricular activities must ensure the consensus of participating students.
"In the 2023-2024 school year, some educational institutions have not provided full information on extracurricular educational activities to parents, causing confusion and misunderstanding that they are compulsory educational activities. This affects the policy of socializing education in enhancing experiential and practical activities for students. To overcome this situation, in the 2024-2025 school year, units will review educational plans from the beginning of the school year. School leaders and school boards will adjust shortcomings in the management of educational activities of professional groups, avoiding having too many educational activities at the same time, leading to overload for students," said a representative of the Department of Secondary Education.
