Decision 2345/QD-NHNN in 2023 on implementing safety and security solutions in online payments and card payments is about to take effect, which means that customer transactions - especially large transactions (from 10 million VND/time and 20 million VND/day) are more strictly protected because they must be performed by the "owner" of the account. The worry of suddenly "evaporating" a large amount of money in the account without the user's manipulation is minimized. However, taking facial samples can also cause some difficulty in operations when customers have to use their phones to read the NFC chip on the citizen identification card (CCCD). In order to ensure that all customers update their faces before July 1, TPBank continuously communicates and guides with specific illustrations so that customers can operate and perform on their own. If customers cannot operate by themselves, TPBank is ready to diversify support channels, parallel to the TPBank App is LiveBank 24/7 with consultants supporting day and night, traditional transaction counters with specialized chip reading devices, or customer specialists coming to the customer's place to take care of and support customers' operations.

With most banks, when it is not possible to update your face online, customers need to go to the traditional transaction counter during business hours to get support from the transaction officer. But at TPBank, it is different, even if they do not want to/cannot go to the counter during business hours, customers can still update their face at LiveBank 24/7 with remote support consultants at any time of the day. With nearly 500 transaction points, mainly in big cities - where many customers are concentrated, LiveBank 24/7 is an effective support channel when customers cannot update their face online by themselves. Even older customers who are not familiar with technology do not encounter any difficulties when operating. Mr. Hoang Nam (56 years old, Dong Da, Hanoi) shared: "After several times doing it myself but I could not provide my face to the bank via the app, my son guided me to LiveBank 24/7 near my house, I was able to update it immediately and the staff also advised me on many services that I could perform here quickly". Officially applying facial authentication when making transactions The pioneering and implementation of biometric technologies started at TPBank in 2017 - 2018, when TPBank pioneered in collecting customers' biometric data at LiveBank 24/7, allowing customers to use their face/fingerprint to authenticate transactions. The convenient method of transacting with face/fingerprint/voice has become TPBank's mark in the market and a favorite habit of customers when using many digital services of Purple Bank. This further explains the convenience, ease, and speed in implementing authentication according to Decision 2345 for TPBank customers.

And as soon as Decision 2345 was announced at the end of 2023, TPBank immediately standardized and implemented additional regulations on biometric collection/authentication by adding an NFC reading solution to retrieve information from CCCDs issued by the Ministry of Public Security (MOPS) to compare with the old Biometric Database (DB). Starting to collect and standardize data from the beginning of April 2024, on average, every day, about 10,000 face and CCCD samples are updated into TPBank's data warehouse from all channels (Mobile Banking, Internet Banking, Counter and LiveBank 24/7). Thanks to a centralized strategy with a modern technology platform, ready to connect the system, TPBank quickly synchronized the process to both collect customer data and ensure operations with high daily transaction volume. On June 20, TPBank became a leading bank to comply with 100% of Decision 2345 in high-value transactions with all customers, 10 days ahead of the effective date of the Decision (July 1, 2024).

Mr. Nguyen Hung - General Director of TPBank shared: "Protecting customers as soon as possible and to the maximum is always our top priority, along with developing new and innovative products and services to meet the increasing needs and tastes of customers. Recognizing the importance of Decision 2345 in bringing positive values to both banks and customers, with the existing system, TPBank has quickly focused on implementing the Decision's standards to ensure the safety of customer accounts at a higher level as quickly as possible". Before Decision 2345, authentication factors often stopped at traditional authentication methods such as OTP, SmartOTP or signature/card pin... This authentication method was still exploited by criminals to deceive customers (Phishing to get OTP numbers, or forging identities/signatures) to cheat money. Even FaceID authentication only depends on facial pattern matching algorithms on personal phones without ensuring that the customer who registered the account is the one making the transaction. Having Decision 2345 ensures that facial authentication is tightened, matched with the face on the CCCD, ensuring that the person making the transaction is the owner of the bank account, thereby bringing positive impacts to both customers and banks.
Set up convenient face authentication with TPBank in one of the following ways: - Perform authentication via TPBank application: Prepare a chip-embedded ID card and a phone that supports NFC. - Perform via LiveBank 24/7: Prepare a chip-embedded ID card, go to the nearest LiveBank 24/7 and select "Update ID card, face" and follow the instructions on the screen. - Perform at a Branch and Transaction Office: Prepare a chip-embedded ID card, go to the nearest transaction counter, the transaction officer will assist customers in updating their face on the system.
