“Donate blood - Give life”, “Every drop of blood given - A life remains”… are messages with profound humanistic meaning of this movement, which have been actively conveyed by the Red Cross Society (RC) at all levels in Thu Dau Mot City to a wide range of people to propagate and mobilize everyone to participate in donating blood to save lives in recent times.

At the recent Voluntary Blood Donation Festival organized by the Provincial Red Cross Association in coordination with other units, many volunteers from localities in the province participated, including Mr. Tran Duc Hoai, in Phu Loi Ward, Thu Dau Mot City. Having donated blood since his student days, Mr. Hoai continued to register to participate after graduating and starting work, because to him this is a very meaningful movement. The blood he donated not only helps people when they are sick and in need, but donating blood also helps him check and know his health status and adjust his lifestyle in a positive direction for his health.

“What motivates me to participate in this activity is to contribute to helping people with anemia during their treatment. My blood can help patients recover their health soon and return to normal life, which is truly meaningful,” said Mr. Hoai.

Donating blood to save people is a noble and humane act. From the meaning of saving people, donating blood has become a regular activity and has a wide influence, attracting a large number of cadres, union members, association members and people from all walks of life in the city to participate. Every time the city, province or local units organize this activity, many people come to register and wait their turn to donate blood to help others. The drops of blood donated by volunteers have contributed to supplementing the blood reserve to serve the treatment and emergency care of patients when needed.

Timely encouragement

In 2024, the voluntary blood donation (VBD) work in Thu Dau Mot City mobilized and received 4,088/3,450 blood units, reaching and exceeding the target assigned by the Provincial VBD Steering Committee (reaching 118.5%). Particularly from the beginning of 2025 to present, Thu Dau Mot City has mobilized 1,648/3,500 blood units, reaching 47% of the target assigned in 2025.

To achieve and exceed the annual voluntary donation target, the City Association always closely follows the plan and targets assigned by the province to advise the City's voluntary donation steering committee to develop a plan to allocate targets to wards, sectors and organizations of the city. In addition, the wards' voluntary donation associations have also advised the Steering Committee at their level to allocate voluntary donation targets to sectors, organizations and branches in the neighborhood. Propaganda work has also been focused on and promoted. Every year, all levels of the association advise on developing a plan to propagate and mobilize cadres, members, youth, voluntary donors and local people to actively participate in voluntary donation.

Mr. Ly Van Minh, Chairman of the Red Cross Association of Thu Dau Mot City, said that the propaganda work was carried out in many forms, such as: Opening training classes, direct mobilization, broadcasting on the ward's radio station; hanging banners, coordinating with universities to propagate the voluntary blood donation movement to students... Since then, cadres, members and students of universities in the area have raised their understanding, awareness and responsibility in the voluntary blood donation movement. The number of people participating in blood donation and repeat blood donation has increased every year.

Along with propaganda work, the work of rewarding, honoring and encouraging blood donation participants has also been well implemented. In addition to the benefits when participating in blood donation, in the past time, the Red Cross Association of 14 wards in Thu Dau Mot City has also advised the Ward People's Committee to support each blood donation participant with 100,000 VND/session. In particular, to encourage and motivate the spirit of blood donation participants, every year, the Red Cross Association of Thu Dau Mot City always pays attention to implementing well the work of rewarding and honoring individuals and families who have made many contributions in donating blood to save lives.

On April 17, Thu Dau Mot City honored and rewarded 3 households and 160 individuals who participated in the HMTN 5 times; 6 households and 57 individuals who participated in the HMTN 10 times in 2024.

As an individual honored with 5 times of blood donation, Ms. Cao Thi Lan Huong, in Phu Loi ward, shared: “Donating blood is not only very good for my health, but also helps patients who need blood transfusions at hospitals. I feel very happy and joyful when I am eligible to donate blood”. Not only proud of her participation, Ms. Huong said that in the coming time, she will continue to encourage everyone to participate in blood donation so that drops of red blood can be given to those in need.
