On January 16, Mr. Phan Van Mai, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, signed a cooperation agreement to establish the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) in Ho Chi Minh City with the World Economic Forum (WEF) within the framework of the WEF Davos 2024 Conference, witnessed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Professor Klaus Schwab, Founder and Chairman of the WEF.
C4IR Ho Chi Minh City is expected to come into operation from June 2024, focusing on research cooperation, policy proposals, technology application and transfer, and resource mobilization for areas that the City and Vietnam are interested in such as green growth, smart cities, artificial intelligence, etc.
The center is located in Ho Chi Minh City Hi-Tech Park, one of two national hi-tech parks in Vietnam. C4IR is considered one of the important economic development projects of the City, playing the role of a driving force for local development in the coming time.
Mr. Phan Van Mai, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, assessed that the establishment of C4IR has great significance, not only for the important development goals of the City but also for national priorities.
In addition, the City can participate in WEF's global initiatives, thereby establishing a comprehensive ecosystem to promote new growth drivers, attract investment, and enhance national competitiveness. The Center will become a reliable and effective address to promote cooperation between experts, researchers, and the Vietnamese and international business community.

Mr. Jeremy Jurgens, Managing Director of WEF, commented that the establishment of C4IR is an important milestone in the partnership between WEF and Vietnam, through which WEF can support Vietnam to achieve its aspirations for innovation, creativity and growth through enhancing international cooperation and connecting with many stakeholders.
C4IR will become a platform to help Ho Chi Minh City in particular and Vietnam in general to shape and develop fourth industrial revolution strategies at both local and national levels, in line with the overall national development strategy as well as contribute to the current global technology development trajectory.
This is the second centre to be established in Southeast Asia, following C4IR Malaysia in 2023, and aims to become a centre of expertise in co-designing policies and piloting future-proof policy frameworks that facilitate the development and application of technology regionally and globally.
C4IR is a multi-stakeholder collaboration platform that connects the public and private sectors to maximize the benefits of technology to society while minimizing risks, improving and accelerating the deployment of emerging technologies. WEF launched the first C4IR in San Francisco (USA) in 2017, followed by C4IRs in Japan and India… The current C4IR network includes: Austin (Center for Trusted Technology Development), Azerbaijan, Brazil, Colombia, Detroit (US Advanced Manufacturing Center), Germany (Global Government Technology Center), Israel, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Norway (Center for Ocean Data Development), Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, South Africa, Telangana, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. |
