Ho Chi Minh City: All teachers must take English proficiency test

All teachers from primary to high school in Ho Chi Minh City must take an English proficiency test from April 23-29.

The survey aims to provide basic data for the department to develop programs and plans to foster foreign language proficiency.

The Department of Education and Training (DET) of Ho Chi Minh City has just issued a plan to organize a survey on the English proficiency of civil servants and public employees in the city's education sector.

The survey subjects are teachers teaching at public primary, secondary and high schools in Ho Chi Minh City.

Teachers will take the online survey on computers or smart mobile devices at: https://englishsurvey.hcm.edu.vn. The survey will be conducted from April 23-29, divided into shifts for each district.

The survey content is in the form of objective multiple choice tests, lasting 90 minutes. It includes listening, reading and writing skills to assess English proficiency according to the CEFR (from A1 - C2).

According to the Department of Education and Training, the survey was designed and standardized by Cambridge Assessment English, ensuring objectivity, science and high reliability in assessing teachers' English proficiency.

According to a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the survey aims to provide basic data for the department to develop programs and plans to foster foreign language skills in a systematic, focused and key manner; in line with the orientation of developing the teaching staff according to a clear roadmap.

At the same time, create conditions for teachers, especially teachers in charge of subjects other than English, to have the capacity to use English in professional activities, integrated teaching and support students to access knowledge in foreign languages. Thereby, gradually forming a bilingual learning environment, contributing to improving the quality of teaching and learning foreign languages ​​in schools.

The survey is also the basis for the department to develop a project to gradually make English the second language in schools.
