After nearly a week of exciting and fierce competition, the 2023 National Taekwondo Championship held in Thanh Hoa ended successfully on the afternoon of June 16, with a closing ceremony and award ceremony. The Ho Chi Minh City delegation won the first place overall.
Taking place from June 12 at Thanh Hoa Province Sports Stadium, nearly 500 athletes from 36 provinces, cities and sectors across the country competed enthusiastically, fiercely and no less attractively in 18 weight categories for men and women in individual combat; 3 team combat events including: women's team, men's team, mixed team of men and women; 4 standard martial arts competitions and 4 creative martial arts competitions.
This is the most important national tournament of the year for taekwondo, so the participating teams all sent their best athletes to compete with the goal of achieving the highest results. In addition, many young athletes were also given the opportunity by their units to participate in the tournament. The medal races between the teams in the events were fierce and exciting until the last minute.
With a strong team of athletes, the Ho Chi Minh City delegation won first place overall with 9 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals. Second place was Binh Duong delegation with 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals. Third place was Da Nang delegation with 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals. The host Thanh Hoa delegation ranked 5th with 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal.
Participating in the tournament with 10 athletes, the host Thanh Hoa team had a successful tournament with 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal. Of which, 2 gold medals belonged to athletes Nguyen Thi Huong (73 kg weight class) and Pham Ngoc Cham (67 kg women's weight class).
2 silver medals went to athletes Nguyen Dinh Dong (51 kg men) and Nguyen Van Dai (over 87 kg men). Bronze medals went to the women's team competition. This is the best result of Thanh Hoa Taekwondo at the national championship in many years.
As the host, Thanh Hoa province has ensured the conditions to successfully organize the tournament, leaving a deep impression on the Central Organizing Committee and the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation. Thereby, promoting the image, potential, and strengths of culture, history, geography, tourism, and unique sports of Thanh Hoa to domestic friends.
The 2023 National Taekwondo Championship held in Thanh Hoa is an important assessment to evaluate the training and coaching work of provinces, cities and sectors across the country, and is also an important basis for the national taekwondo team to select and supplement excellent athletes to prepare for upcoming major tournaments, especially the 19th Asian Games - ASIAD.
