According to a report from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training to the City People's Committee on the organization of the 2023-2024 public high school entrance exam, from July 11th to 5 PM on July 26th, 71,254 out of 76,028 students who passed the exam submitted their enrollment applications to high schools, achieving a rate of 93.72%. This means that 4,774 students who passed the exam have not yet submitted their enrollment applications.
Schools with a 100% enrollment rate include Duong Van Duong High School, Tay Thanh High School, Nguyen Huu Cau High School, Nguyen Cong Tru High School, Can Thanh High School, Binh Khanh High School, Linh Trung High School, Thu Duc High School, Nguyen Chi Thanh High School, Tran Hung Dao High School, Nguyen Cong Tru High School, Thanh An Junior and Senior High School, Binh Khanh High School...
The two specialized high schools, Le Hong Phong Specialized High School and Tran Dai Nghia Specialized High School, had admission rates of 81.82% and 75.6% respectively.
Most public high schools that have not yet filled their enrollment quotas for 10th grade are located in suburban or outlying areas, such as: An Nhon Tay High School, Trung Lap High School (Cu Chi District); Vinh Loc B High School, Phong Phu High School, Binh Chanh Sports and Physical Education High School, Da Phuoc High School (Binh Chanh District); Nguyen Van Tang High School (Thu Duc City); Nguyen Van Linh High School (District 8)...
Nevertheless, the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training stated that the locality remains committed to not lowering the admission cutoff scores for 10th grade.
Explaining this issue, the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training stated that the department had proactively increased the enrollment quota for suburban areas so that schools could lower their admission scores and create opportunities for students from surrounding areas to be admitted. Therefore, basically, the schools still ensured that their enrollment plans were met.
On the other hand, during the 10th grade entrance exam, there is still a situation where students living in the city center register their preferences for schools in suburban areas. Therefore, although their names are on the list of admitted students, these students cannot enroll. Thus, lowering the admission score cannot solve the shortage of students in schools in suburban districts and counties, but will disrupt the city-wide admissions process.
The deadline for submitting applications for admission to 10th grade for the 2023-2024 school year in Ho Chi Minh City will end at 5 PM today (August 1st).
