Promote social security, reduce poverty

According to the Department of Information and Communications, over the past half century, Ho Chi Minh City has gone through an important journey, marking its maturity and making positive contributions to the process of building, developing and protecting the city.

After the country's reunification, despite many difficulties in the first 10 years (1975 - 1985), the city still maintained revolutionary achievements, political stability and economic development, while healing the wounds of war.

The city focuses on implementing poverty reduction and social security policies, quickly narrowing the gap in living standards between urban centers and rural areas; effectively implementing support programs for poor households, near-poor households, meritorious people, children in difficult circumstances, social protection beneficiaries, and drug addicts.

The efforts of the entire political system of the city and the whole society have achieved encouraging results. The city has completed the targets of the Resolution of the 11th City Party Congress, term 2020 - 2025, 2 years ahead of schedule. By the end of 2023, the city has maintained the result of no more poor households meeting national standards. By July 2024, the city continues to reduce the number of poor and near-poor households, successfully implementing the goal of sustainable poverty reduction.

People's health care has been given special attention. The medical examination and treatment network has been expanded, medical facilities and equipment have been upgraded, and the quality of medical examination and treatment services has been significantly improved. Health policies for the poor, children under 6 years old, and social policy beneficiaries have been fully and effectively implemented. By 2024, the city will have a ratio of 21 doctors/10,000 people and 43 hospital beds/10,000 people.

Ho Chi Minh City is the first locality to deploy a network of community health collaborators with more than 13,000 collaborators, reaching more than 82% of the set target. In addition, the city has implemented more than 1.1 million electronic health books integrated on the VNeID application to replace medical examination books.

Leading in culture, education and training

According to the Department of Education and Training, to date, the city has completed the goal of universalizing secondary education and developing the scale of education at all levels, with nearly 2,295 schools and nearly 1.7 million students. The team of educational managers and teachers has increasingly improved their professional qualifications, with more than 91,000 officials and teachers directly involved in teaching.

Facilities for teaching and learning are constantly upgraded to meet the learning needs of students. The city has improved the quality of general education, both general and advanced, with students who are dynamic, creative, and ready to integrate internationally. The quality of the city's human resources has been improved to meet the requirements of higher education and the need for sustainable development.

In line with the goal of building an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity, the city has focused on investing in the fields of culture, literature and art. The city has continuously improved the system of cultural, physical education and sports institutions and cared for building and promoting Vietnamese family values. Traditional values ​​of solidarity and affection in the community have been consolidated.

Ho Chi Minh City always effectively implements support programs for poor households, children in difficult circumstances, social protection beneficiaries, etc.

Ho Chi Minh City has promoted the construction of Ho Chi Minh cultural space, where Uncle Ho's ideological, moral and stylistic values ​​are present in daily life. Literary and artistic activities are increasingly rich and vibrant with the participation of artists who are closely associated with the people, contributing to the cause of preserving and promoting the city's traditional culture, literature and art.

With these achievements, Ho Chi Minh City continues to affirm its position in building a comprehensively developed society, with special attention to education, health care, culture and social security.
