Speaking on the occasion of National Day September 2, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai recalled Vietnam's admirable achievements in nation building. Mr. Mai affirmed that with a thousand-year history of civilization, patriotism and persistent efforts, Vietnam has risen to become a developing economy. In that process, the Party Committee, government and people of Ho Chi Minh City have made many great contributions to the overall success of the whole nation. Regarding socio-economic development, the city's economic structure continues to shift in a positive direction associated with growth model innovation, gradually developing in depth, meeting the increasingly high requirements of the 4.0 industrial revolution trend. On that basis, in just over 10 years, the city's economic scale has more than doubled. In 2024 alone, GRDP in the first 6 months of the year reached more than 567,000 billion VND, an increase of nearly 6.5% over the same period. This is the highest increase in the past 3 years. Ho Chi Minh City continues to demonstrate its determination towards a sustainable green economy, aiming at the goal of economic development in parallel with environmental protection by completing the construction of a green growth policy framework until 2030, with a vision to 2050.

Not only in economy, Ho Chi Minh City also shows its increasingly important position and image through the field of foreign affairs. On the occasion of the reception, Chairman Phan Van Mai expressed his respect and pride for the vibrant and meaningful foreign affairs activities that international friends have coordinated with the city over the past time. Since the beginning of the year, Ho Chi Minh City has welcomed more than 30 high-ranking foreign delegations, including heads of state of many countries, and held nearly 100 foreign receptions. The content of the exchanges is diverse, focusing on cooperation in sustainable economic development, responding to climate change, building smart cities, and implementing key projects of the city. This has demonstrated the role and position of the city towards international friends. In particular, in September, the city will host the 2nd Friendship Dialogue and the 5th Ho Chi Minh City Economic Forum. These are two large-scale multilateral foreign affairs and economic diplomacy events, marking a milestone in the city's foreign affairs. The highlight of which will be the establishment of the 4th Industrial Revolution Center in Ho Chi Minh City with the World Economic Forum (WEF).
