For Hung, the city is like his second hometown. The exact feeling is "far away is missing, near is loving more". This time Hung sends 2 songs "Proud of Ho Chi Minh City" and "Hello to the city of 50 springs", which are the 2 most recent compositions that Hung wrote about the city because he felt more meaningful things.
Which song do you particularly like? Why?
- The song "Hello city 50 springs" is a song that Hung has a lot of affection for because of the event welcoming the city's 50th anniversary in 2025. A journey of development towards a civilized, modern, affectionate, and integrated city.

As a veteran singer, you have recently started composing more. What are the strengths and weaknesses of a singer who participates in composing?
- Composing is also the accumulation of emotions from the real-life experiences that Hung encounters every day. When writing songs, for Hung, it is a way for him to share and contribute more. Hung does not put himself in the role of a professional musician, so he does not face any pressure. Hung writes with his personal emotions and real-life feelings. However, Hung is always aware of learning and accumulating more experience from the composing skills of his predecessors, learning more about music genres and ways to develop songs.
.The feelings of a Northerner like you for Ho Chi Minh City must be very deep to have enough emotion to write songs about the city like this?
- "City" is a two-word familiarity that Hung always loves like the air he breathes every day, always giving Hung excitement and positive energy. Hung loves every street, every corner of this city. Wherever he is, Hung can feel the warm, open smiles of the people in the city. That feeling has made Hung feel familiar for a long time and is also the goal he aims for in his daily life. Living with love and sharing like what the city is and continues to spread good things.
.These are two rare songs about the city among your compositions, right?
- This is not the first time Hung has written about Ho Chi Minh City. Before that, Hung had songs like "The City in Me", "There is a Saigon like that", "Sai Gon sends love"... What makes Hung happiest is that in his city's events, his songs have been chosen to perform a lot, and at the same time received a lot of love from the audience.
.Everyone born and raised in Ho Chi Minh City is excited about the upcoming event when witnessing the changes in all aspects of the city. What about you, who have chosen Ho Chi Minh City as your second hometown?
- Hung is also eagerly waiting for the big holidays. The city always has unique cultural and artistic activities, blending with the common joy of the city's people. Hung believes that there will be more outstanding cultural and artistic imprints and meaningful activities of the city on this occasion. At that time, I will also have the opportunity to contribute to the national festival and Ho Chi Minh City as I have been accompanying for many years.
.You have to be in pain to write good music and sing with emotion. Do you agree with this point of view?
- Hung believes that one must be at peace to be able to feel empathy for many emotions. That helps the singer easily put himself into many emotions and express his songs better. Hung thinks that pain will sometimes exhaust his vitality and mind. For Hung, music and art are a way to help each person find positivity and optimism. Music helps spread love and connect people together.
"Keep working hard with the energy of youth like from the beginning. No matter what stage, always remind yourself to try to improve yourself to respond to the love of the audience. In Hung's dictionary, there are no words like star, position... but only effort and dedication" - singer Nguyen Phi Hung confided.
The songwriting campaign "The Country is Full of Joy" is organized by the Lao Dong Newspaper to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025). The Organizing Committee will select the 20 best works for the final round. The final round will take place in February 2025. During the time of receiving works and preliminary screening, the Organizing Committee will select good works to stage and introduce at the 30th Mai Vang Awards Ceremony (around January 2025). At the same time, the Organizing Committee will also post the works on the newspaper's social networking platform to introduce to the community.
Each author can submit up to 3 works. Works sent to the Organizing Committee must have full music and Vietnamese lyrics, and must be accompanied by a CD of the recorded song or an MP3, MP4 file. The works must be new, unpublished in any form and free of copyright disputes. The Organizing Committee will not consider or award prizes for works that copy or imitate the ideas, melodies, and lyrics of other authors at home and abroad.
The award ceremony will take place in April 2025. The award structure includes 1 first prize (100 million VND), 1 second prize (50 million VND), 2 third prizes (30 million VND/prize), 3 consolation prizes (10 million VND/prize).
