On the afternoon of April 18, Mr. Ho Tan Minh - Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, informed that the department had just sent a document to all teachers of general schools in the area about the English proficiency test for teachers of the department, which will be held from April 23 to 29.
Accordingly, the core purpose of the English proficiency survey for all primary, secondary and high school teachers is to assess the current situation, not to test individual proficiency.
This survey aims to provide a general picture of the English proficiency of teachers in the whole sector. The survey results are important and necessary input data for the city to have a realistic and scientific view of the current situation.
Based on the general picture of English proficiency of all teachers in the city, Ho Chi Minh City will have a foundation to build a development plan.
On the one hand, the collected data will be the basis for developing the project "Gradually making English the second language in schools", an important goal to improve the quality of education and international integration.
On the other hand, also from the overall results, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City will calculate, develop a plan and roadmap to foster and support the improvement of foreign language skills for the team in a suitable, effective and feasible manner, meeting the requirements of educational innovation.
Also in this document, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City made 3 commitments to teachers.
First, this is not an exam to evaluate or classify the capacity or expertise of each teacher.
Second, the survey results will not be used for any other purposes such as competition evaluation, salary review, discipline or other personal purposes.
Third, the results of each individual will be kept confidential, only the individual teacher and related individuals of the Steering Committee for project development will have access.
English Proficiency Survey for All Secondary School Teachers
Previously, on April 15, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced a plan to conduct a survey on the English proficiency of civil servants and public employees in the city's education sector.
According to this plan, all teachers teaching at public primary, secondary and high schools in Ho Chi Minh City will take an online survey on computers or smart mobile devices.
The survey content is in the form of objective multiple choice tests, lasting 90 minutes. It includes listening, reading and writing skills to assess English proficiency according to the European standard reference framework CEFR (from A1 to C2).
This English proficiency survey plan of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training is not only for English teachers, making some teachers feel worried.
