Ho Chi Minh City plays a pioneering role in foreign affairs nationwide.

Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Anh Tuan highly appreciated the pioneering role of Ho Chi Minh City in foreign affairs nationwide. During the 50 years of development, since the country's reunification, Ho Chi Minh City has always been a symbol of the spirit of dynamic innovation and integration. In particular, in the past 20 years, the city has gradually developed a multi-layered diplomatic model, flexibly coordinating between State diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy, promoting political diplomacy, economic diplomacy, cultural diplomacy and work with overseas Vietnamese, thereby raising the image of Ho Chi Minh City in the international arena, while enhancing the effectiveness of implementing local sustainable development goals.

Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan shared that right after the liberation day, Ho Chi Minh City established the Department of Foreign Affairs. In 1985, the city proactively welcomed a delegation of nearly 70 American businessmen to learn about the investment environment. This was a pioneering event, demonstrating the spirit of innovation, creativity, daring to think, daring to do in the city's foreign affairs activities.

Over nearly 50 years of development, Ho Chi Minh City has established friendly and cooperative relations with 58 international localities, and is an active member of many important international organizations. Since the renovation period in 1986, the city has always been a pioneer in implementing the Party's foreign policy, from initial experiments in foreign economic relations to successes in attracting foreign direct investment, organizing international forums and developing diverse diplomatic models. These activities are always harmoniously combined between Party diplomacy, State diplomacy and people's diplomacy.

Foreign affairs play an increasingly important role, being a pillar supporting socio -economic development, making Ho Chi Minh City a center of international exchange, a place to converge and connect knowledge, technology, investment and cultural resources. The city has successfully built local cooperation models with international partners such as Vientiane (Laos), Busan (Korea), Osaka (Japan), clearly demonstrating the spirit of diplomacy for the goal of sustainable development.

Entering the 2025 - 2045 period, Ho Chi Minh City aims to become the leading financial and innovation center in Southeast Asia. To achieve this goal, the city clearly identifies the task of enhancing the stature of foreign affairs, implementing it proactively, effectively, creatively and with its own identity.

Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan emphasized that the city has issued a strategy to enhance foreign affairs until 2030, with a vision to 2045, with a clear orientation: foreign affairs must serve sustainable development, adapt to global trends, and create new values. Ho Chi Minh City aims to become a center for international initiatives, a meeting place for creative cities and spreading open thinking and the image of Vietnamese culture to the world.

Mr. Vo Van Hoan affirmed that foreign affairs work contributes to enhancing the position and image of Ho Chi Minh City in the international arena. The workshop is an opportunity to acknowledge and express gratitude to generations of foreign affairs officials of the city, who have silently and persistently contributed to bringing the image of Ho Chi Minh City to the international arena and bringing the world closer to the city. These are small but solid bricks, building a solid foundation for a civilized, modern and affectionate Ho Chi Minh City.
