Ho Chi Minh City finalizes ticket prices for Metro Line 1 Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien

On November 21, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued a decision on ticket prices for public passenger transport services on Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien).

The lowest fare paid in cash is 7,000 VND and the highest is 20,000 VND/trip, depending on the distance traveled; the lowest non-cash fare is 6,000 VND and the highest is 19,000 VND/trip.

Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) is expected to be commercially operational by the end of 2024.

For passengers buying a day ticket, it is 40,000 VND/person/ticket, with no limit on trips during the day, and a 3-day ticket is 90,000 VND/person, with no limit on trips during the 3 days. For monthly tickets, the price is 300,000 VND/person/ticket for general passengers, and 150,000 VND/person/ticket for students.

Cases of ticket exemption and reduction are implemented according to resolutions of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council.

In addition, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also issued the price of public passenger transport by train for Metro Line 1 at VND341,910/km. This price includes the cost of labor to maintain the urban railway infrastructure, but does not include the cost of property insurance (fire, explosion) and electricity for machinery and equipment at the Depot, station, and control center.

Metro Line 1 is the first urban railway project in Ho Chi Minh City, with a total investment of more than 43,700 billion VND, nearly 20 km long, from Long Binh depot, Thu Duc to Ben Thanh, District 1. In addition to 11 elevated stations, the line also has three underground stations in the city center: Ben Thanh, City Theater and Ba Son.

Metro Line 1 project started construction in August 2012. After more than 12 years of construction, the entire project has completed 98% of the volume but there are still some problems that need to be resolved for commercial operation, expected at the end of 2024.
