According to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the monument was built to commemorate the historical event of the Southern resistance war and to show gratitude to revolutionary soldiers, heroic martyrs, and all Vietnamese people who sacrificed and contributed to the independence, freedom, and unification of the country.
The monument represents the will, determination, and indomitable revolutionary fighting spirit of our entire Party, army, and people.
In addition to honoring and remembering the sacrifices of comrades, compatriots and soldiers, the Southern Resistance Monument also aims to contribute to educating the tradition and history of revolutionary struggle for cadres, party members, union members, association members and people of all walks of life.
The monument area at 23-9 Park will create a space that is proportionate, solemn, suitable, and in harmony with the regional landscape, urban aesthetics, synchronous in terms of traffic infrastructure, and connectivity with cultural and historical works and architecture in the area and the center of Ho Chi Minh City.
The project also combines maximum exploitation of natural landscapes, creating highlights of historical and cultural values, attracting tourists when coming to Ho Chi Minh City.
Previously, Ho Chi Minh City held a competition for plans and ideas to build a monument to the Southern Resistance. The city decided to build the monument to the Southern Resistance in Area A, September 23 Park.
Contestants must design the landscape of the area and the scale and size of the monument to be suitable for the landscape space of September 23 Park, ensuring the construction density of the entire area and the landscape in front of Ben Thanh market and the metro line.
