Ho Chi Minh City: 310 12th grade students must retake English test

Tran Huu Trang High School has officially announced that all grade 12 students must retake the English test in the final exam of the first semester, school year 2024-2025.

Meanwhile, some parents of Tran Huu Trang High School, District 5, Ho Chi Minh City reported to Tuoi Tre Online : "Our children took the English test on December 23, but due to the school's mistake, they now have to take the test again, which is very stressful. Especially when the retest date is after the 2025 New Year holiday...".

On the afternoon of December 27, Mr. Tran Thanh Phong, principal of Tran Huu Trang High School, admitted that there were indeed mistakes in the final exam of the first semester of English for 12th grade students. That is, the content of the question and the content of the answer options did not match.

"The errors occurred in all 4 exam codes, each exam code had 11-15 incorrect questions (out of a total of 50 questions). Therefore, we decided to let all 310 grade 12 students retake the English test on January 3, 2025 to ensure the rights of students," said Mr. Phong.

Mr. Phong affirmed: "The re-test will have the same structure and difficulty as the first test."

Test making process

Also according to Mr. Tran Thanh Phong, at Tran Huu Trang High School, during the final semester exam, all students will follow the school's common exam.

In which, teachers of each block will compile the final exam for that block, according to the specification matrix agreed upon at the beginning of the school year. Teachers will submit this exam to the head of the department.

For English, the head of the English department will compile two tests for grade 12 students - based on the tests sent by the subject teachers. These two tests will be put into the software by the head of the department and shuffled into two sets of questions.

Each set of questions has 4 codes, is sealed and sent to the school board. Next, the school board will randomly draw 1 set of questions, then send this set of questions to the printing department.

"The mistake in the English test for grade 12 students was in using software to shuffle the questions. The next mistake was not checking carefully after completing the 4 test codes. The school has seriously learned from the experience with the teachers in the recent council meeting," said Mr. Phong.
