Can Tho City completes plan to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses

According to the City Steering Committee, responding to the emulation movement to join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide launched by the Prime Minister, Can Tho City has implemented it very drastically. When implementing the program, the city reviewed and found 1,066 houses that needed to be built and repaired. In 2024, the city completed 535 houses. In 2025, Can Tho still has 531 houses (375 new houses, 156 houses repaired). Thereby, the city has mobilized the participation of all levels and sectors and is determined to complete it before April 30, 2025.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen, Chairman of the City People's Committee, said: implementing the Program of Joining Hands to Eliminate Temporary and Dilapidated Houses nationwide launched by the Prime Minister , Can Tho City has mobilized more than 49 billion VND; of which, from the source of saving 5% of regular budget expenditure in 2024, more than 16 billion VND, mobilized sources, more than 31 billion VND, contributions from relatives of households, more than 1.6 billion VND. The fact that Can Tho City has completed the construction and repair of 531 houses for poor and near-poor households and people with revolutionary contributions is a clear demonstration of the attention, leadership, drastic, close and synchronous direction of the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city, the enthusiastic and effective support of businesses, philanthropists and the people.

At the same time, he congratulated 531 households for having new homes full of love. He emphasized that Can Tho City will continue to pay attention to and closely direct the work of building and repairing houses in each locality; continue to research and propose appropriate and effective solutions; promote better mobilization of resources, expand flexible and creative forms of support, suitable for the subjects, contributing to improving the quality of people's lives.

On this occasion, 20 collectives and 25 individuals with outstanding achievements in implementing the emulation movement "Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in Can Tho city in 2025" were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Chairman of the City People's Committee; The Organizing Committee presented 50 gifts to representatives of households that have just received support to build and repair houses.
