Bao Loc City of Lam Dong has spent billions of dong to create livelihoods, giving breeding cows directly to the poor.

Bao Loc City today is one of the two major centers of Lam Dong province, located at an altitude of 800 - 1,000m. Bao Loc City is famous for its tea trees with a long history. This is also a locality with the famous mulberry growing, silkworm raising, silk reeling, and silk weaving professions of Lam Dong in particular and Vietnam in general. Mulberry growing and silkworm raising also helps many families develop their economy and stabilize their lives.

However, currently, Bao Loc City still has over 80 poor households, accounting for 0.18% and 350 near-poor households, accounting for 0.76%. By the end of 2023, the city has reduced 333/767 multidimensional poor households (equivalent to 43.1% of the total number of poor households compared to 2022), of which 109 poor households and 224 near-poor households have been reduced.

Up to now, the whole Bao Loc city still has over 80 poor households, accounting for 0.18%.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Phan Van Cuong, Vice Chairman of Bao Loc City People's Committee, said that in order to effectively implement the goal of poverty reduction, limit poverty relapse, improve living conditions and production in the suburbs and disadvantaged areas of the communes, in order to improve the quality of life of poor households, the locality has helped the poor have the opportunity to access basic social services, especially in health care, education, vocational training, legal aid, housing support, domestic water, information, etc.

"Implementing the sustainable poverty reduction program, Bao Loc City has supported production development through policies to support the conversion of crop and livestock varieties, preferential credit loans, agricultural extension, vocational training, and support for job creation for people...

In particular, Bao Loc City has implemented livelihood model support for community groups in Loc Chau and Dam'bri communes for 13 households with an amount of more than 500 million VND. Currently, we are continuing to implement for Dai Lao, Loc Chau, Dam'bri, Loc Nga communes and Loc Son ward, with a budget of more than 1.2 billion VND", Mr. Phan Van Cuong informed.

Breeding cows were given to people in Loc Chau commune to help them escape poverty.

Present in Loc Chau commune, the reporter recorded the excitement of the people when they were given the breeding cows as their livelihood. The breeding cows have created excitement and efforts for poor households to have the awareness to strive to escape poverty sustainably.

Talking to reporters, Mr. Bui Quoc Huy (45 years old, village 2, Loc Chau commune) said: "My family is very excited to receive support from the state for breeding cows. We were given a mother cow and a calf, which are now 9 months old. They are growing quickly thanks to the advice and technical support from commune and city officials. Later, when the calf grows up, we can sell it to earn income, and the mother cow will be used for breeding to increase the herd."

An official from the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Bao Loc City said that in the entire Loc Chau commune, 8 households were supported with 8 pairs of cows to create livelihoods and develop the economy, worth about 300 million VND. Of which, households receiving cows will be supported with care techniques, building barns, etc.

Although poverty reduction in Bao Loc City has achieved certain results, there are still many difficulties. In particular, Bao Loc City assessed that some poor households still have the mentality of waiting and relying on the support of the State and the community, and have not proactively overcome difficulties to escape poverty.

In addition, the allocation of funds to support vocational education development under the National Target Programs of previous years has been slow, so the implementation of opening vocational training classes for rural workers, workers from ethnic minority areas, workers from poor households, near-poor households, and households that have just escaped poverty is still behind schedule.

Bao Loc City also set a target of reducing 200 multidimensional poor households by 2024, including 60 poor households and 140 near-poor households, and by 2025, there will be no more multidimensional poor households. At the same time, ensure that 100% of poor and near-poor households are supported with social insurance cards, receive health care, have the opportunity to study, and be introduced to jobs suitable to their abilities so that they can work on their own and improve their lives.
