The reason given by Toyota Vietnam is due to some objective reasons in the process of preparing to introduce the product. The new launch schedule will be announced later.
The announcement to postpone the launch of the new Toyota Wigo was made in the context of three Toyota models developed by Daihatsu being involved in safety test fraud scandals: the new generation Vios, the new generation Wigo and Raize.
Some tricks were used by Toyota, such as cutting the driver's door to let the debris fly out according to calculations, thereby reducing injuries to the dummies. In response to this scandal, Toyota Thailand and Malaysia retested, certified the safety, and resumed sales of the products.
Regarding Toyota Vietnam's safety testing violations, the company affirmed that this does not affect its operations and product launch plans.
Although not yet launched, many information about Toyota Wigo 2023 has been revealed by sales consultants. Specifically, Toyota Wigo 2023 will be sold in 2 versions E and G. Both are equipped with a new 1.2l 3-cylinder naturally aspirated engine code WA-VE, with a capacity of 65kW (87 horsepower) and torque of 113Nm. The engine is combined with a 5-speed manual transmission on the E version and a D-CVT with the G version.
The length, width and height of the Toyota Wigo 2023 are 3,760 x 1,665 x 1,505 mm respectively. The wheelbase is 2,525 mm. The car uses Daihatsu's new global platform (DNGA).
The front end design includes a line connecting two chrome-plated headlights. Large grille, daytime running lights placed along both sides and body-colored rearview mirrors. In addition, the front of the car does not have an enlarged air intake, no sporty front bumper. The single-tone 14-inch wheels are identical to the G version of the Toyota Wigo 2023 launched in Indonesia.
Outstanding features include LED headlights, electronic balance, hill start assist, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto wireless connectivity and a D-CVT automatic transmission similar to the Raize. The interior in Vietnam is only available in black.
