After graduating with a degree in environmental science in 2016, Nam worked as an employee at a printing company in Ho Chi Minh City. After more than two years there, he chose to leave his stable job to pursue a career in pharmacy.
Recalling the reason for his career change, Nam shared: "During my work, I had the opportunity to research and consult many documents related to the health field. Gradually, I developed a special interest in medicine and medicinal herbs. Coincidentally, at that time, I had a close friend from junior high school who also wanted to study pharmacy. After a long period of careful consideration, we both decided to apply for admission."
Le Minh Nam (left) became the valedictorian at the age of 30.
It was thought that these two close friends would have many interesting experiences together on their new journey, but during the enrollment process, Nam's friend unfortunately passed away. Their promise to become pharmacists together was left unfulfilled, and Nam had to continue alone. From then on, he was determined to strive for himself and for his friend.
At the end of his first year of university, Nam planned to accelerate his studies, registering for courses and arranging a specific schedule. "In my first year, I combined studying at school with working part-time to earn extra income. In my second year, the curriculum became more demanding due to accelerated learning, so I focused mainly on studying. Difficulties were inevitable at that time," Nam recounted.
Sharing his study methods for becoming a top student, Nam smiled and said, "Actually, I don't have any particularly special secrets. I just make the most of my time in class to focus on listening to the teachers' lectures, and if I don't understand something, I raise my hand and ask immediately instead of letting the questions linger in my mind for too long. At home, I spend time researching materials and finding other hobbies to relax."
Nam's graduation thesis, titled "A Survey of Factors Influencing Customers' Decisions to Purchase Over-the-Counter Medications in District 4, Ho Chi Minh City," received a score of 9.5 and was highly praised by his lecturers. Achieving this result was the culmination of his hard work, effort, and a bit of daring in choosing to complete his thesis in English.
Commenting on this exceptional valedictorian, Master of Pharmacy Ngo Ngoc Anh Thu, Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Business Administration, Faculty of Pharmacy, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, shared: "Although Nam started his studies later than some other students, he has outstanding academic achievements and is a shining example for many to follow. He is very persistent, has a progressive mindset, and possesses excellent self-learning abilities. These qualities will be valuable assets to help Nam develop even better in the future. We hope Nam will always strive to become a bright spot in his chosen field."
