During the celebration of Ukraine's National Day in the capital Kiev on August 24, President Zelensky confirmed that he had signed into law the defense package passed by the Verkhovna Rada ( Parliament ) of Ukraine.
Notably, this is a law that ensures comprehensive support for Ukrainian soldiers operating on the territory of a foreign state (Russia), as well as a law that provides for Ukrainian citizenship for soldiers of foreign nationality serving in the Ukrainian armed forces.
“Anyone who feels the same life and independence as the Ukrainians, who fought together with the Ukrainians, deserves to be a citizen of Ukraine. This is a law that protects the Ukrainian Orthodox Church from dependence on Moscow and ensures the dignity of the holy place of our Ukrainian people,” President Zelensky stressed.
Previously, on August 20, the Ukrainian Parliament amended Article 3 of the Law “On Social and Legal Protection of Servicemen and Their Family Members”, thereby regulating the status of servicemen fighting in Russia.
On the same day, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law on the legal status of foreigners and stateless persons participating in protecting the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine.
