“We reject the actions of both sides targeting civilians because this is completely contrary to morality, religion and international law,” Abbas was quoted as saying by the official Palestinian news agency Wafa.
The Palestinian Authority, which governs part of the occupied West Bank and has long opposed Hamas, opposes violence and will pursue political action to achieve its goals, he said.
On Thursday, US Secretary of State Blinken affirmed that Hamas does not represent the Palestinian people or their legitimate aspirations.
As Israel reeled from the impact of Saturday's unprecedented attack by Hamas gunmen, the West Bank was in ominous turmoil.
More than 30 people have been killed in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since Saturday and security forces are bracing for further violence ahead of prayers at Jerusalem's Al Aqsa mosque today.
Al Aqsa Mosque is located on a site in the Old City of Jerusalem that is sacred to both Muslims and Jews. It is also one of the most sensitive sites in the Middle East and has been the source of constant confrontations.
A Palestinian man was shot dead just outside the Old City after opening fire on a police station, Israeli police said on Thursday.
Earlier, Israeli settlers in the West Bank shot dead two Palestinians when they opened fire on a funeral. A 37-year-old Palestinian woman was also killed when she was shot by security forces near Ramallah, the main city in the West Bank, according to Palestinian health authorities.
