Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkmen counterpart Serdar Berdimuhamedow reaffirmed their joint commitment to further comprehensive efforts to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

According to the Kremlin's announcement on September 22, in a phone call on the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin sent warm birthday wishes to his Turkmen counterpart Serdar Berdimuhamedow.
The two leaders focused on preparations for major international events to be held in Russia and Turkmenistan in October. These include the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Summit in Moscow, the BRICS Summit in Kazan and the Ashgabat Forum celebrating the 300th birthday of the famous Turkmen poet-philosopher Magtymguly Pyragy.
In his birthday letter to Serdar Berdimuhamedov, President Putin wrote: “I am confident that we will continue constructive cooperation on topical issues on the bilateral and international agenda in the interests of friendly countries Russia and Turkmenistan, in the interests of ensuring security, stability and prosperity in Central Asia and the Caspian Sea region.”
The Russian leader added that in the land of birch trees, Mr. Serdar Berdimuhamedov is known as a consistent supporter of the development of a deep strategic partnership between Russia and Turkmenistan.
Mr. Serdar Berdimuhamedov, born on September 22, 1981, won the country's presidential election held on March 12, 2022 with 73% of the vote.
In his inauguration speech a week later, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, son of his predecessor Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, affirmed that he would continue the path of national development that had been outlined over the past 30 years. In terms of foreign policy, Turkmenistan would continue its policy of neutrality.
Once part of the Soviet Union, the Central Asian country is known for its abundant gas reserves.
