US President Donald Trump said on April 3 that his administration was "very close" to a deal to find a buyer for TikTok, which faces a US ban if it is not sold by its Chinese owner by the end of this week.
"We're very close to a deal with a very good group of people," Mr Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One, adding that the deal involved "multiple investors" but providing no further details.
In January this year, Mr. Trump set a deadline of April 5, 2025 for ByteDance to sell TikTok to a non-Chinese buyer or face being banned in the US.
TikTok is valued at around $50 billion. ByteDance has not confirmed that it is in talks with potential buyers and has also declined to say whether it would agree to sell TikTok to an American company./.
