On March 28, US President Donald Trump said he was willing to negotiate individual deals with countries seeking to avoid US tariffs.

US President Donald Trump speaks to reporters aboard Air Force One, February 19.

But when asked if these agreements could be reached before April 2, President Trump affirmed: "No, it will probably be after that. This is a process."

The White House boss seemed quite certain when emphasizing that these agreements would only be implemented after his administration announced reciprocal tariff measures on April 2.

Speaking to reporters on the plane, President Trump also revealed the upcoming plan to impose tariffs on the pharmaceutical industry. However, he refused to provide further details on the specific timing or the tax rate that will be applied.

According to President Trump, a number of countries, including the UK, have approached the US to seek to negotiate agreements to avoid these reciprocal tariffs.

"They want to make a deal. It could be done if we get a fair deal. Well, I'm certainly open to that. If we can do something that's good for both sides," Trump said.

* On the same day, March 28, German Finance Minister Joerg Kukies warned that US tariffs would impact both the German and US economies, and said Berlin was trying to prevent an escalating trade war.

“Higher tariffs would hit German carmakers and the German economy as a whole particularly hard. But they would also harm the US economy, as they would make imports more expensive and raise prices for US consumers,” said Minister Kukies.

* Meanwhile, China Central Television ( CCTV ) said on March 28 that Beijing will take resolute countermeasures if the US harms its interests with its upcoming tariff policy. CCTV 's Yuyuantantian account posted on Weibo that if the US wants to discuss cooperation with China, mutual respect is a prerequisite.

* Canadian sources said on March 27 that the country's new Prime Minister Mark Carney convened a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Canada-US relations to discuss ways to deal with the US's punitive tariffs on Canadian imports. He said that the relationship between the two countries "is in the process of breaking down" because of President Trump. However, Mr. Carney believes that Canada will overcome the crisis and "build a stronger, more resilient economy."

* Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the country plans to strengthen relations with countries in the Indo-Pacific region and diversify trade relations globally to cope with the new US tariff policy.

Speaking on ABC , Prime Minister Albanese affirmed: "What we will always do is protect Australia's national interests... We also ensure that we build Australia by not being dependent on any country through diversifying trade relations and improving relationships in the region and around the world." He said that Washington's decision to impose tariffs is not in the interests of either Australia or the US.

* Earlier, Swiss Economy Minister Guy Parmelin said the country had highlighted its contributions to the US economy in an effort to avoid tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump. "We are a major investor... and we want to invest more," Parmelin said.

A delegation arrived in Washington last week after Switzerland was added to a list of countries being investigated for unfair trade practices. Parmelin said Switzerland is the sixth-largest foreign investor in the United States. Swiss companies provide about 400,000 high-wage jobs in the United States.

Earlier, late on March 26, the US announced a 25% tariff on imported finished cars and some components from April 3, dashing hopes of lower tariffs or exemptions after some short-term policy changes suggested there might be room for compromise.
