On September 10, President of the United States of America Joseph R. Biden, Jr. arrived in Hanoi, beginning a State visit to Vietnam at the invitation of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong.

On September 10, President of the United States of America Joseph R. Biden, Jr. arrived in Hanoi, beginning a state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Accompanying President Joe Biden are: Secretary of State Antony Blinken; US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper; National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan; Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry; Assistant to the President, Deputy National Security Advisor John Finer; Deputy Assistant to the President, Special Coordinator for the National Security Council Kurt Campbell; Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Kritenbrink; Special Advisor to the President, Senior Director of the National Security Council Mira Rapp-Hooper; Special Advisor to the President, Senior Director of the National Security Council Tarun Chhabra.

President of the United States of America Joe Biden (full name: Joseph Robinette Biden Jr.) was born on November 20, 1942 in Scranton, Pennsylvania (USA). He has a BA in Political Science from the University of Delaware (1965), and a Law degree from Syracuse University, New York (1968). He is married and has 4 children.

In 1968, he was awarded a law degree and opened a law office. From 1970-1972, he was elected to the City Council of Newcastle County, Delaware.

In 1973, Joe Biden was elected as a Senator representing the state of Delaware, becoming the 6th youngest Senator in US history; he was then re-elected 6 times, holding the positions of Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee (2001-2003 and 2007-2008), Chairman of the Judiciary Committee (1987-1995).

From 2009 to 2016, he was Vice President under the Obama Administration.

From 2017-2019, he worked as a speaker, wrote books, and participated in charity activities.

In April 2019, he announced his candidacy for the 2020 US Presidential election. In November 2020, he was elected President of the United States for the 2021-2025 term, becoming the oldest President in US history (78 years old).

On April 25, 2023, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris announced their candidacies for a second term.

President Joe Biden's visit to Vietnam this time, marking a decade since the two countries established and implemented the Comprehensive Partnership (2013-2023), is a continuation of the visits to Vietnam by the heads of the White House, President Bill Clinton (2000), President George Bush (2006), President Obama (2016) and President Donald Trump (2017), over the past nearly 30 years.

The good achievements of the bilateral relationship over the past three decades are the basis to affirm that the State visit of US President Joe Biden to Vietnam will continue to be a meaningful milestone on the common journey for peace, stability, cooperation and sustainable development in the region and the world of the two countries.
