Indonesian President visits Vinfast factory complex

On January 13, 2024, within the framework of his State visit to Vietnam, Indonesian President Joko Widodo visited the VinFast Automobile and Electric Motorcycle Manufacturing Complex in Hai Phong and directly learned about high-end electric car models of the Vietnamese brand.

Previously in Hanoi, President Joko Widodo and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with businesses that are cooperating in production and business in both countries, including VinFast and GSM.

Welcoming the President of Indonesia, Chairman of Vingroup and General Director of VinFast Global Pham Nhat Vuong personally drove President Joko Widodo to visit the electric car manufacturing plant at VinFast's world-leading modern factory complex.

Sharing after visiting the factory and learning about VinFast electric cars, the Indonesian President expressed his joy when visiting the factory and was impressed with the quality and class of VinFast cars. The President said that he will create conditions for VinFast to soon complete investment procedures for production and business in the Indonesian market.

According to the announced plan, VinFast is expected to invest at least 1.2 billion USD in Indonesia in the long term. In parallel with distributing imported cars from Vietnam in the first phase, VinFast will invest 200 million USD to build an electric vehicle factory with an expected output of up to 30,000-50,000 cars/year in Indonesia.

On the same morning in Hanoi, Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with businesses investing, operating in production and business in the two countries. During the meeting, VinFast and GSM reported to the leaders of the two countries about the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation with Indonesia's leading technology company - PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (the owner of the Gojek transportation service application platform).

The cooperation between the three companies aims to promote green transportation in Indonesia by supporting Gojek drivers to switch to electric vehicles, while giving Indonesian consumers the opportunity to experience SM Green 5-star mobility services with VinFast's environmentally friendly electric vehicles. In addition to VinFast's investment plan, GSM also announced plans to invest up to 900 million USD in Indonesia in the near future.

By signing a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation with Gojek - the leading e-commerce platform and transportation service application in Indonesia, VinFast and GSM demonstrate their desire to strongly contribute to the goal of reducing traffic emissions that the Indonesian Government is aiming for. The agreement also opens up cooperation opportunities and marks a new step for VinFast and GSM in the process of expanding operations to international markets in 2024.
