On the evening of September 5, the plane carrying Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embaló and his wife along with the Guinea-Bissau delegation arrived at Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi), beginning an official visit to Vietnam.
The visit took place at the invitation of General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife. This is the first time Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embaló and his wife have visited Vietnam. Welcoming the delegation at the airport were: Deputy Head of the Office of the President Phan Thi Kim Oanh; Vietnamese Ambassador to Morocco and Guinea-Bissau Le Kim Quy; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang and leaders of a number of departments and offices under the Office of the President and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said that this is the first visit to Vietnam by a Guinea-Bissau President since the two countries established diplomatic relations. The welcoming ceremony for Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embaló and his wife is expected to take place today (September 6) at the Presidential Palace, chaired by General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife. The two leaders will hold talks and witness the signing of cooperation documents. During the visit, Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embaló and his wife will have a number of other important activities. Vietnam and Guinea-Bissau established diplomatic relations on September 30, 1973, a few days after the country declared independence. In its foreign policy, Vietnam always attaches importance to its traditional friendship and wishes to develop multifaceted cooperation with friendly countries in Africa, including Guinea-Bissau. Guinea-Bissau considers Vietnam a priority cooperation partner in its foreign policy and is ready to expand practical and effective cooperation in all fields in the coming time. Vietnam is Guinea-Bissau's third largest export market in the world. The two countries maintain cooperation in many areas where bilateral agreements have been signed, including culture, economy, trade, industry and science and technology. The two countries regularly coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums. During bilateral meetings, the two sides agreed to increase contacts and exchanges of delegations at all levels, especially promoting visits by high-ranking leaders of the two countries; coordinate and support each other at international forums, act as a bridge to support each other in strengthening cooperation with regional organizations such as the African Union (AU), the Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and increase sharing of experiences in socio-economic development and policy making. The two sides also wish to promote information exchange, cooperation opportunities, and business connections between the two countries; Continue to promote key trade items such as cashew nuts and expand to other potential items such as agricultural products, textiles, etc. Sign bilateral cooperation documents on agriculture, seaports, trade, etc. Regarding agricultural cooperation, Vietnam is ready to support Guinea-Bissau in developing agriculture through bilateral or tripartite agricultural cooperation projects; thereby gradually helping Guinea-Bissau ensure and be self-sufficient in food security.Vietnamnet.vn
