Accordingly, Mr. Trump nominated Mr. Scott Turner, former National Football League (NFL) player and former White House Assistant, as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This is an important position in the context of the nationwide housing crisis and the increasing housing prices in the US.

Mr. Turner served in Mr. Trump’s first administration as executive director of the White House Opportunity and Recovery Council. Before that, Mr. Turner also served in the Texas state legislature.

In a statement on the social network Truth Social, President-elect Trump said that under Mr. Turner's leadership, opportunity zones have received more than $50 billion in private investment.

Housing has been a central issue throughout the 2024 US presidential campaign as both Mr Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris have taken different approaches to loosening affordability and building more housing.

Mr. Trump’s team has frequently touted deporting undocumented immigrants as a way to expand housing supply, a claim that has been disputed by economists and other experts. Since Mr. Trump’s victory, industry insiders have been hoping for lighter regulations that could cut construction costs and wait times.

Meanwhile, Mr. Trump nominated Dr. Dave Joseph Weldon, former Republican Congressman representing Florida, to serve as Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

This announcement underscores the strategic importance of health care governance during the upcoming term of the President-elect.

In a statement, Mr Trump described Mr Weldon as “a respected conservative leader on fiscal and social issues”.

The CDC, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, is a $17.3 billion national preventive health agency that has been used as a model for public health around the world. Weldon’s appointment to head the CDC underscores the combination of medical expertise and legislative experience that are essential to effective leadership of the agency.

Mr. Weldon's position as CDC Director needs to be approved by the Senate before it takes effect in January 2025.

In addition, US President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Ms. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, Republican Congresswoman representing Oregon, as Secretary of Labor .

In a statement, Mr. Trump praised: "Ms. Lori has worked tirelessly with both business and labor to build the American workforce and support America's hardworking men and women."

Lori Michelle Chavez-DeRemer, born in 1968, is the first female Republican to represent Oregon in the House of Representatives, and one of the first two Hispanic women from Oregon to be elected to the House of Representatives.

The New York Times describes her as an “orthodox Republican” who considers herself independent-minded. She voted in favor of Israel after Hamas’ October 2023 attack on Israel.

The Secretary of Labor is one of the Cabinet positions that requires confirmation by the US Senate.
