President Frank-Walter Steinmeier was born on January 5, 1956, and is a Doctor of Law and Political Science.

He started working at the Lower Saxony State Office in 1991, and from 1994 to 1996 he was Head of the Lower Saxony State Office. From 1996 to 1998 he was State Secretary and Head of the Lower Saxony State Office; from 1998 to 1999 he was State Secretary of the Chancellery and Government Special Envoy for Intelligence. From 1999 to 2005 he was Head of the Chancellery; from November 2005 to November 2007 he was Foreign Minister; from November 2007 to October 2009 he was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
During the 2009-2013 period, he was Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) Parliamentary Group; during the 2013-2017 period, he was Foreign Minister. In March 2017, he was elected President of the Federal Republic of Germany (1st term); in March 2022, he continued to be President of the Federal Republic of Germany (2nd term, until 2027).
