President of the Republic of Burundi arrives in Hanoi, starting official visit to Vietnam

(Chinhphu.vn) - On the evening of April 3, President of the Republic of Burundi Évariste Ndayishimiye and his wife arrived in Hanoi, beginning an official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Luong Cuong and his wife from April 3 to 6.

Accompanying President Évariste Ndayishimiye and his wife Angeline Ndayubaha were: Minister of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning Nesto Ntahontuye; Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation Ambassador Albert Shigiro; Minister of Environment, Agriculture and Livestock Prosper Dodiko.

The visit to Vietnam by Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye and his wife takes place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Previously, President Évariste Ndayishimiye met with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the sidelines of the High-level Debate of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2023.

The visit of Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye and his wife demonstrates the policy of the Party and State of Vietnam in expanding foreign relations with other countries, implementing the Project "Developing relations between Vietnam and countries in the Middle East - Africa region for the period 2016-2025" and the Project "Developing relations between Vietnam and the African Union for the period 2021-2025".

Vietnamese Ambassador to Tanzania and Burundi Vu Thanh Huyen said: “The visit to Vietnam by Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye and his wife is a historic milestone in the relationship between the two countries, demonstrating the desire to further strengthen friendly and cooperative relations in the fields of politics, economics, trade, culture and society.”

Burundi is a country in East Africa. Vietnam and Burundi established diplomatic relations on April 16, 1975. Currently, the Vietnamese Embassy in Tanzania serves Burundi and the Burundi Embassy in China serves Vietnam.

President Évariste Ndayishimiye was born on June 17, 1968 in Gitega Province. He holds a law degree from the University of Burundi.

President Évariste Ndayishimiye is an admirer of Vietnam’s history of fighting for national independence. He highly appreciates Vietnam’s important achievements in national construction and development, considering Vietnam a model for developing countries to follow.
