(CLO) Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will undergo an additional medical procedure on Thursday morning following surgery two days earlier, to reduce the risk of bleeding in the brain.
Doctors operated on Mr Lula for about two hours on Tuesday to drain bleeding between his brain and the membranes surrounding his brain, believed to be related to a fall in late October at his home.

The additional medical procedure on Thursday, called an endovascular procedure, will help reduce the risk of future bleeding, his personal physician, Roberto Kalil Filho, told reporters on Wednesday.
The hospital said it would hold a press conference following the surgery on Thursday. Dr. Kalil explained that the procedure was “relatively simple” and “low-risk,” and was expected to last about an hour.
The additional procedure had been discussed by doctors since Tuesday's surgery and did not represent a deterioration in Lula's health, Kalil said. "We waited to see that the president was recovering well before deciding to proceed with this procedure," he said.
The Sirio-Libanes Hospital in Sao Paulo said in an update that the 79-year-old Brazilian president was in intensive care but had no complications that day, as he walked around, received family visits and underwent physical therapy.
President Lula's health has become a major concern for the Brazilian public, especially after he has faced several health problems during his current term.
