Israel plans to expand military operation in Rafah . Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that the country plans to expand the scope of its military operation in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
Speaking during a meeting with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan who is visiting Israel, Mr. Gallant stated that the country is determined to expand its ground operations in Rafah until it completes the goal of "eliminating" Hamas and rescuing the hostages.
Rafah is a border city in the Gaza Strip bordering Egypt's Sinai Peninsula. Israel considers it the last stronghold of the Hamas Islamist movement after seven months of military operations aimed at disintegrating the group.

US and Israel discuss alternatives to Rafah operation . US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, who is on an official visit to Israel, discussed with the Jewish state authorities alternative options for conducting an operation in the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, according to the White House.
In a statement after the consultations, Mr. Sullivan noted that the Israeli government talked about new alternative approaches to push back Hamas in Rafah, taking into account the concerns expressed by the US side.
The US national security adviser stressed that negotiations between Israel and Egypt on resuming the Rafah checkpoint are crucial to providing a significant amount of humanitarian assistance to the struggling people in the Gaza Strip.
In addition, according to the White House, Mr. Sullivan held consultations with the Palestinian Authority, during which the parties discussed the provision of humanitarian aid, the release of hostages held by Hamas, as well as the Palestinian reform program and the importance of the international community providing financial support to the new Palestinian government.

International aid shipments have been stuck on the Egyptian side of the border, leading to fears that some food supplies will spoil. Meanwhile, parts of the Gaza Strip are at risk of famine after more than seven months of fighting. Mr Shoukry called on Israel to quickly open other land routes for aid deliveries.
Israel and Hamas respond to ICC move . Both Israel and Hamas have condemned the ICC Prosecutor's request to arrest Israel's Prime Minister and Defense Minister as well as top Hamas leaders on suspicion of war crimes.
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said this was "shameful", similar to Hamas' attack on the victims on October 7, 2023.
Meanwhile, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich described the ICC Prosecutor's attempt to issue arrest warrants for the Israeli Prime Minister and Defense Minister as "an arrest warrant for all of us," and called on countries friendly to Israel to act to dissolve the ICC.
For its part, Hamas has condemned the ICC Prosecutor's decision to arrest three of the group's leaders and demanded that the request be revoked.
Arresting Netanyahu will not end the fighting . The Daily Telegraph quoted a British government representative as saying that the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would not lead to a solution to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
“ We do not believe that obtaining an arrest warrant for Mr Netanyahu will help free the hostages, deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip or ensure a sustainable ceasefire, which remains the UK’s top priority ,” a British government representative said.
The British government noted that the International Criminal Court has “no jurisdiction in this matter”. “The UK does not recognise Palestine as a state and Israel is not a party to the Rome Statute” .
