"As far as I know, the West has finally realized that it must reach a peace agreement if it wants to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. In sports terms, a draw is still possible if they start negotiations today," Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said at the 2nd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security.
Mr Lukashenko said he had noticed the trend after recent contacts with “intelligent representatives” of the West. The US and its allies had previously pledged to stand by Ukraine “until” victory was achieved.

Accordingly, Western allies continue to send weapons and aid to Kiev because they want to save public face, as happened in Afghanistan. In 2021, the US-led coalition left Afghanistan in chaos shortly after the Western-backed government in Kabul collapsed and the Taliban took power.
According to Mr Lukashenko, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky is the only obstacle to diplomacy. He said his Ukrainian counterpart is driven by personal ambition and refuses to face the truth.
Mr Zelensky has repeatedly refused to compromise with Russia. In early October, he presented a so-called “victory plan” in the conflict that called for increased Western support and greater military involvement of Kiev’s supporters.
The Belarusian president added that the Ukrainian army is very clear-headed and wants to end the conflict. Meanwhile, Mr Zelensky's team wants to escalate and draw NATO directly into the conflict. Mr Lukashenko called on the West to stop blaming Russia for the current conflict and instead focus on de-escalating tensions.
