On the evening of June 7, Indian President Droupadi Murmu appointed National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leader Narendra Modi as Prime Minister and asked him to form a new government to be sworn in on the evening of June 9.

President Murmu handed over the appointment letter to Mr Modi at the Presidential Palace in the capital New Delhi.
After meeting the President, Mr. Modi told the media at the Presidential Palace that the NDA government has been given a third chance by the people to serve the country. “In the last two terms, the country has achieved rapid development and has witnessed change in every sector and the lifting of 250 million people out of poverty is a proud moment for every citizen,” he said.
Expressing optimism about the country’s future, Mr. Modi confidently predicted that the next five years will be extremely favorable for India on the global stage. He highlighted the country’s growing influence and the positive impact that India will create on the international stage in the coming years. Besides, he asserted: “This 18th Lok Sabha is an important milestone towards realizing the dreams of ‘Developed India’ when the country celebrates its 100th anniversary of independence in 2047.”
Earlier, leaders of the NDA alliance led by the BJP met President Murmu and presented a letter of support to Mr. Modi, who was elected as the NDA leader in the Lok Sabha (Lower House).
