On the afternoon of March 4, at the American Center (HCMC), the US Consulate General in HCMC held a session to share information about the 2025 Fulbright Master's Scholarship Program - a scholarship funded by the US Government with the aim of strengthening diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United States, fulfilling the US's commitment to supporting Vietnam in training high-tech human resources.
Accordingly, the Fulbright program was approved by the US Government in 1946 and is currently managed by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State.
In its nearly 80 years of operation, the program has provided educational and cultural exchange opportunities to more than 400,000 people from the United States and 160 countries around the world. Each year, approximately 8,000 new scholarships are awarded to outstanding individuals from a variety of fields and professions.
In Vietnam, the Fulbright program first appeared in 1992. To date, after more than 30 years of operation, there are more than 1,600 US and Vietnamese citizens who are members of the Fulbright Program in Vietnam, of which nearly 700 members are alumni of the Fulbright Master's Scholarship program.
In the 2025-2026 academic year, the Fulbright Master's Scholarship will expand the sponsored fields of study in the fields of science and technology, engineering, and physical sciences in addition to the traditional strengths of social sciences and humanities (including majors in education, communication, journalism, international relations, social work, public policy, economics, business, public health, library, public administration, English language teaching, gender and women's studies, etc.)
Accordingly, scholarship recipients will be fully sponsored for tuition, 1 round-trip air ticket from Vietnam to the United States, living expenses, health benefits and support conditions while studying and living in the United States.
The representative of the American Center said that this year, the application period for candidates will end on April 1, 2024.

After completing the master's program, students return to Vietnam as cultural ambassadors, participating in activities to develop the community.
Mr. Dang Vinh Thang, publishing consultant, Ho Chi Minh City Youth Publishing House - a former student who received a Fulbright master's scholarship in publishing, Pace University, New York City in 2019, said that the scholarship has many strict requirements to find suitable candidates with leadership potential and clearly defined future career goals.
Therefore, candidates need to clearly identify the connection between their learning goals and future careers, have work experience in the field or major they are pursuing, and be willing to become cultural ambassadors and contribute to community development.
