Excited after visiting the cake production line at ABC Bakery (HCMC), Ms. Susan Burns, US Consul General in HCMC, said she was looking forward to trying the dragon fruit mooncake with California cream cheese and almonds.
According to Ms. Burns, this year ABC Bakery has combined high-quality US agricultural products such as blueberries, almonds, California cream cheese with Vietnamese ingredients such as dragon fruit, to create a new line of mooncakes.
"Today's event is an everyday example of how the United States and Vietnam benefit when we come together. This year, our two countries celebrate 10 years of the Vietnam-United States Comprehensive Partnership. I am confident that this partnership will continue to deepen in the years to come," said Susan Burns.
According to the representative of the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, food and agriculture are an important part of the US-Vietnam relationship, and the two countries are two important markets for each other's agricultural products, in which the US is the world's largest cheese producer. The connection and promotion of agricultural products from the two countries into food and confectionery production will be further promoted by the US in the coming time.

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Kao Sieu Luc, general director of ABC Bakery, said that the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City invited him to work with the country's agricultural sector to support the processing of some types of cakes from US agricultural ingredients. And the moon cake using US agricultural products such as blueberries and almonds has made that a reality.
"Penetrating the US market is what the company is aiming for. And the company combines Vietnamese agricultural products with American agricultural products to process new products to conquer Americans, in which the cake fillings are specially produced to suit. In the coming years, the unit will promote "selling" to the US and other countries moon cakes made from domestic ingredients, including many new products," said Mr. Luc.
According to ABC Bakery representative, in 2022, the unit will directly export about 700-800 boxes of moon cakes to the US market, this year it is about 10,000 boxes, the price fluctuates around 1 million VND/box.
The export of confectionery, especially moon cakes, has also been promoted by many businesses in recent times in the form of direct export or indirect export by selling to customers for export as hand-carried goods.
In addition to the US market, destinations such as Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia... are being targeted by many businesses.
Demand for moon cakes is still slow
ABC Bakery representative said that according to plan, with 80 types of fillings, this year's Mid-Autumn Festival the unit will produce about 2.5 million cakes (including processing), an increase of about 500,000 cakes compared to last year; the selling price will increase by 4-5%.
However, compared to last year, some customers are reducing their imports, especially in the low and mid-priced segments. Similarly, representatives of mooncake manufacturers such as Bibica, Nhu Lan... said that this year the market is selling early but the purchasing power is not high.
