On the morning of February 4, leaders of the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) convened an urgent meeting to resolve air traffic congestion caused by bad weather.
The meeting had representatives from the Civil Aviation Authority, the Hydrometeorological Forecasting Center and flight management branches to assess the situation and propose measures to enhance safety of flight operations in adverse weather conditions.

According to VATM, the fog that appeared in the North in early February had a negative impact on flight operations. At Noi Bai airport, horizontal visibility dropped below 300m at times (this phenomenon has only occurred 3 times in the past 10 years).
Air traffic control at Noi Bai and other northern airports due to fog has led to chain delays at Tan Son Nhat Airport (HCMC). Many flights had to circle or divert to land at other airports. Flights preparing to take off had to postpone departure to wait for the weather to improve.
VATM has applied Low Visibility Procedure (LVP) at Noi Bai. Flights are assigned to perform ILS CAT II precision approach on runway 11R.
In addition, air traffic management units activate air traffic flow regulation procedures in adverse weather conditions to balance flight operations needs and operational capacity.

In the coming time, VATM will continue to research and coordinate with relevant agencies and units to improve service quality, proactively prevent and minimize negative impacts caused by weather developments affecting flight operations.
The flight management unit will also coordinate discussions with the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting to increase the effectiveness of weather forecasting, especially on days when bad weather affects flight operations.
