General Secretary To Lam: Making Vietnam a pioneering country in science and technology

The General Secretary emphasized that the VinFuture Prize is a testament to the spirit of learning and the aspiration to reach out globally, making Vietnam a pioneering country in science, technology and innovation.

On the afternoon of December 6, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary To Lam received international scientists and experts who are visiting Vietnam and attending the VinFuture Prize Award Ceremony 2024.

General Secretary To Lam welcomed and warmly congratulated international scientists, especially outstanding international scientists in the fields of artificial intelligence, materials science, environmental research and medical applications, on the occasion of being honored and receiving the VinFuture Prize 2024.

The General Secretary emphasized that the VinFuture Prize is not only the most valuable annual scientific award, but also a testament to the Vietnamese people's spirit of learning, aspiration to reach out to the world, and absorb the quintessence of humanity, making Vietnam a pioneering country in science, technology and innovation.

General Secretary To Lam shared the vision and determination of the Party, State and people of Vietnam to realize development goals, becoming a developing country with modern industry and high average income by 2030 and a developed country with high income by 2045; informed about the major policies and orientations of the Party and Government of Vietnam, accordingly identifying science, technology and innovation as the top national policy, a strategic breakthrough and the main driving force to create breakthroughs in productivity, quality and efficiency, a decisive factor in improving the country's competitiveness and sustainable development and efforts to proactively participate in and make the most of the advantages of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

On behalf of the VinFuture Prize Council, Professor Richard Henry Friend, Chairman of the VinFuture Prize Council, expressed his deep gratitude to General Secretary To Lam for his special personal attention to leading international scientists and experts, especially the famous scientists honored in 2024; affirming the international stature of the VinFuture Prize, the important and practical significance of the research and contributions of the scientists awarded this year, especially in promoting global cooperation, connecting great ideas, inspiring passion and creativity for the young generation in the mission of serving humanity, contributing to solving global challenges, for a better society and life.

Speaking at the meeting, international scientists and experts highly appreciated the vision, major orientations and determination of the Party and Government of Vietnam in developing and utilizing science, technology and innovation, creating strategic driving forces for strong breakthroughs; acknowledged Vietnam's positive and practical steps in the field of digital transformation, application and development of modern technologies in many important industries and fields; highly appreciated the potential for cooperation between large technology corporations and the Vietnamese business community in the fields of research and application of new technologies.

Scientists also presented ideas and proposals on issues of building an AI ecosystem, energy transition, green economy, digital economy, research and development, human resource training, technology application in agriculture, transportation, etc., gradually making Vietnam a bright spot in new technology fields in the region and the world.

On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam welcomed the meaningful initiative and efforts to organize the annual VinFuture Prize; expressed his appreciation and gratitude to leading international scientists and experts in the fields of new science and technology who have accompanied Vietnam, actively shared ideas, provided advice, connected and promoted cooperation and investment between Vietnam and the world's leading universities, research organizations and technology corporations.

General Secretary To Lam suggested that international scientists and experts continue to cooperate closely and actively support Vietnam in the following areas: advising on policies for developing new science and technology and choosing appropriate investment directions; supporting the training of high-quality human resources to serve the development strategy of the semiconductor and artificial intelligence industries; promoting the formation and development of innovation and high-productivity computing centers and connecting Vietnam with leading technology corporations and international markets./.
