NDO - On the afternoon of June 23, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong received President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol, who is on a State visit to Vietnam.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed the President of the Republic of Korea and his wife, along with the high-ranking delegation of the Republic of Korea, to visit Vietnam right after the two countries upgraded their relations to a “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” at the end of 2022; expressed his delight at the good development of the Vietnam-Korea relationship over the past 30 years, believing that the visit will create a new milestone, promoting the relationship between the two countries to continue to develop better with higher, deeper and better quality in the coming time.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong recalled the good memories of his previous visit to Korea; sincerely thanked Korea for its valuable assistance and support over the years. The General Secretary emphasized that the relationship between the two countries has been tested over time and has the prospect of further development, for the benefit of the people of the two countries. The General Secretary suggested that both sides increase visits and cooperate to help each other. The General Secretary welcomed the positive results achieved by both sides at the talks between President Vo Van Thuong and President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol, and suggested that the two sides continue to enhance mutual understanding and political trust through regular exchanges and contacts at high and all levels.

The General Secretary shared about the situation in Vietnam, emphasizing that in recent years, Vietnam has made strong progress, and that Vietnam has never had such a foundation, potential, position and international prestige as it does today. Although it still faces many difficulties and challenges in the complicated world situation, Vietnam is determined to build an independent, self-reliant, peaceful and friendly country with other countries; Vietnam will continue to promote the innovation process, and be a friend and trusted partner of all countries in the world, especially close countries like Korea.

President Yoon Suk Yeol sincerely thanked General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong for taking the time to receive the delegation; expressed his pleasure to meet General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong after the online talks between the two sides in June 2022; congratulated the great achievements that Vietnam has achieved in recent times under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam headed by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; and thanked the General Secretary for his affection and interest in developing bilateral relations over the past years. President Yoon Suk Yeol emphasized that over the past 30 years, the two countries have respected each other, and Vietnam is a key country for Korean cooperation in Asia.

President Yoon Suk Yeol said that this visit will be a new beginning for the next 30 years of the Korea-Vietnam relationship, and hopes that both sides will work together to develop together. The President suggested that both sides should pay attention to training the young generations of both countries; Korea will continue to prioritize training Vietnamese students, create conditions for Vietnamese students to study at high-tech schools in Korea, and serve as a solid bridge for the friendly relationship between the two countries; suggested that both sides increase people-to-people exchanges, promote cooperation in the fields of education and training, science and technology, and make the Korea-Vietnam relationship a model in international relations, and the two countries strive together for peace, cooperation and prosperity.

At the meeting, the two leaders also discussed international and regional situations of mutual concern.
