On the afternoon of July 20, at the Party Central Committee headquarters, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong received Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who is on an official visit to Vietnam.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the Malaysian high-ranking delegation to pay an official visit to Vietnam on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations (1973-2023).

Recalling good memories of his previous visit to Malaysia, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong highly appreciated the strong and comprehensive development of cooperation between the two countries.

The General Secretary emphasized that Vietnam and Malaysia are two close neighbors in Southeast Asia, both are members of ASEAN, share views on many important international issues, have many similarities in culture and history, and many Vietnamese people are living and studying in Malaysia.

The General Secretary thanked the Prime Minister for his affection for President Ho Chi Minh and his kind remarks about the country, people, and all-round development of Vietnam as well as the important results achieved in national governance and the prevention and fight against corruption and negativity.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong discussed the great and comprehensive achievements that Vietnam has strived to achieve, creating the foundation, potential, position and international prestige it has today.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification of foreign relations, in which he always attaches importance to relations with neighboring countries.

The General Secretary shared with the Prime Minister the significance and importance of the fight against corruption, negativity and waste, which has been carried out systematically, achieved important results and received the support and trust of the Vietnamese people. Vietnam has learned a lot from Malaysia's development experiences and highly appreciates the achievements that Malaysia has made in recent times under the leadership of the Government of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Appreciating the good results of the talks between the two Prime Ministers, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong expressed his belief that the relationship between the two countries still has much potential for strong development, and agreed with the cooperation proposals proposed by the Prime Minister, including the exchange of experiences in national leadership, socio-economic development management, and the fight against corruption, negativity, and waste.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome from Vietnam and the General Secretary for taking the time to receive the delegation. The Prime Minister expressed his special respect for Vietnam's history of struggle and his affection and admiration for President Ho Chi Minh.

Expressing deep impressions about Vietnam's development and great changes, the Malaysian Prime Minister highly appreciated the leadership role of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the special contributions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong personally.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim informed General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong of the results of his talks with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, emphasizing his desire to promote comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam, including party relations, sharing of leadership and development experiences, economic cooperation, defense, security and in new areas such as digital economy, cyber security and responding to non-traditional security challenges.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim shared his views with the General Secretary on preventing and combating corruption and negativity in Malaysia and hoped that the two sides would promote cooperation and share experiences in this field.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his joy and importance of the meeting with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong expressed his belief that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's visit would be a new milestone, contributing to promoting the development of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
