General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong always pays attention to culture, repeatedly affirming the important role of culture in the country's development.

During his lifetime, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong always paid attention to culture, repeatedly affirming the important role of culture in the country's development: "Culture is the soul of the nation, expressing the identity of the nation," "as long as culture exists, the nation exists," "culture must be placed on par with politics, economics, and society"...
The General Secretary also paid great attention to the work of building culture and the lives of artists so that the cultural sector "can have new, stronger and more effective changes and progress, marking a new milestone on the path of reviving and developing Vietnamese culture in the new era" as stated in his speech at the 2021 National Cultural Conference.
"Culture is the spiritual foundation of society"
Recently, the cultural sector has added a handbook for the work of developing Vietnamese culture and people. That is the book "Building and developing an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity" of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung said that the book has great value, because it is not only the intellectual product and passion of the General Secretary, but more importantly, it is a systematic scientific work, gathering the thoughts, guiding views, statements and articles of the leader of our Party on the nature and characteristics of Vietnamese culture, on the role and mission of culture as an endogenous resource for development - the connection of culture with economy, politics and society.

“The book contains valuable content on preserving traditional and revolutionary cultural values, on cultural development in the new era, the central meaning of humans as creative subjects, the important role of artists in cultural development, associated with building a national value system, a cultural value system, a family value system and Vietnamese human standards, thereby contributing significantly to enriching theoretical and practical issues on building and developing an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity,” Minister Nguyen Van Hung stated.
With this handbook, cultural workers are also aware of their responsibility to thoroughly grasp, convey, and concretize the thoughts and guiding viewpoints of the General Secretary so that the core contents of the book can be spread and deeply absorbed into the minds of those working in cultural work, turning awareness into concrete actions, more strongly arousing patriotism, self-reliance, solidarity, and the aspiration to develop a prosperous and happy country.

Sharing with reporters of VietnamPlus Electronic Newspaper, Associate Professor-PhD Nguyen The Ky, Chairman of the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Arts, said that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and his colleagues built a system of political theory to lead many fields, including culture.
“Every time the country faces a new opportunity, a new fortune, and new challenges, the General Secretary reaffirms once again that we must ‘shake up’ culture, so that ‘culture can light the way for the nation’, so that culture can lead the nation forward,” Associate Professor-PhD Nguyen The Ky said.

According to Mr. Nguyen The Ky's analysis, without "culture to guide the way" as Uncle Ho mentioned, the national revolution may still face many difficulties, and we may even lose our national identity and spirit. Therefore, the General Secretary directed the organization of the National Cultural Conference in 2021, exactly 75 years after the First National Cultural Conference (1946).
In the book “Some theoretical and practical issues on socialism and the path to socialism in Vietnam,” The General Secretary mentioned many issues such as politics, ideology, economy, culture, building a socialist rule-of-law state, Party building, national defense, security, foreign affairs..., in which the General Secretary repeatedly emphasized the role of culture.
“The General Secretary affirmed that culture is the spiritual foundation of society, the endogenous strength, the driving force for national development and national defense. Our Party has determined that developing culture in a synchronous and harmonious manner with economic growth and social progress and equality is a fundamental orientation in the process of building socialism in Vietnam. I think this is a very profound viewpoint,” said Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen The Ky.

Regarding the viewpoint on cultural development, the General Secretary stated that the culture we are building is an advanced culture, imbued with national identity, unified in diversity, based on progressive humanistic values. According to Associate Professor-PhD Nguyen The Ky, this is a correct guiding viewpoint, inheriting and promoting the fine traditional values of all ethnic groups in the country and absorbing the quintessence of human cultural achievements.
Mr. Ky affirmed that those views were consistently presented in the book "Building and developing an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity" by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong recently.
“In particular, the book not only has a theoretical basis but also gathers profound and highly practical articles and touching stories, demonstrating the cultural stature of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong,” Mr. Ky commented.
Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu, Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association, said that the work "Building and developing an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity" by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is extremely necessary, extremely important and truly urgent for the survival and development of the nation in this era.
“Building and developing an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity is the only way for the Vietnamese people to maintain their independence and freedom, for the Vietnamese people to create values for humanity, for the Vietnamese people to live the dream of being a true human being and always act for that great dream, for the Vietnamese country to have the right to be proud before all nations,” said Mr. Thieu.

According to the Chairman of the Vietnam Writers' Association, the General Secretary deeply understands the mission of culture for a nation, expressed through the saying: "Human happiness is not only in having a lot of money, a lot of property, delicious food, beautiful clothes, but also in the richness of the soul, living amidst love and compassion, reason and justice."
Give love to artists
Devoting much attention to the country's culture, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong always emphasizes the important role of artists in preserving and promoting the nation's traditional culture and arts, as well as encouraging them to create and develop new works of art that are closely linked to modern life.
Sharing with reporters of VietnamPlus Electronic Newspaper, People's Artist Le Ngoc (Le Ngoc Stage) said that the General Secretary always cares about the lives of artists and always trusts the artists.

Ms. Le Ngoc still remembers the memory of attending the 2021 National Cultural Conference, having a warm meeting with the General Secretary, and discussing with the General Secretary the ideological absorption, the spread of morality and the sacrifice of artists for the country's art.
“The General Secretary has repeatedly affirmed the importance of culture for the development of the country. We keep that in mind and always take the General Secretary’s teachings as a guideline for our artistic activities, wholeheartedly serving the people, imbued with the General Secretary’s advice to be worthy soldiers on the cultural and ideological front,” People’s Artist Le Ngoc expressed.
Recently, the documentary "General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong - A Loyal, Intellectual and Exemplary Leader" has been completed, bringing valuable footage about the life and glorious career of the exemplary leader, honoring the contributions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to the revolutionary cause of our Party, State and nation.

Meritorious Artist Dang Thai Huyen, Deputy Director of the People's Army Cinema, co-director of the film, said that making the film was a great honor, but also a great pressure for the People's Army Cinema. The film crew made great efforts to complete the most meticulous work, aiming to sketch the most comprehensive and objective portrait of the General Secretary during his work and leadership of our Party.

“During his lifetime, the General Secretary affirmed that the Party, the State and the people always expected and wished that artists would produce more works of higher ideological and artistic value; truly, deeply and comprehensively reflecting the reality of our country in the period of innovation, integration and development. Each artist must renew himself, having both courage and alertness; and having new qualifications, vision, ways of thinking and methods of expression in artistic creation, suitable to the practical requirements of development in Vietnam today,” director Dang Thai Huyen shared.
The General Secretary's messages in conferences discussing cultural issues are something that every artist, including Ms. Dang Thai Huyen, always remembers and reminds themselves of.
“In the coming time, the Army Cinema will carry out many film projects aiming at the major holidays of the Party, State and Army. We have always kept in mind the General Secretary’s words to fulfill our duties as soldiers and artists in the new situation,” said director Dang Thai Huyen./.
