On February 26, in Hanoi, a high-level meeting between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party took place, co-chaired by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith.

This is an important event contributing to strengthening and deepening the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, two States and peoples of Vietnam and Laos.

At the meeting, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith informed each other about the situation of each party and each country, including party building and socio-economic development, and discussed the world and regional situation and issues of mutual concern.

The two leaders assessed the results of cooperation between the two parties and two countries in recent times and agreed on major orientations for Vietnam-Laos cooperation in the coming time.

The two leaders expressed their joy and appreciation for the increasingly deep, substantive and effective development of Vietnam-Laos cooperation in all fields, in which political relations continue to be strengthened; defense-security cooperation is effectively promoted; and economic, cultural, educational, scientific-technical cooperation has seen positive changes.

The two leaders congratulated the important and comprehensive achievements that the people of the two countries have attained in the cause of national construction and development as well as in implementing the Resolution of each Party's Congress; and thanked each other for their wholehearted support and assistance over the past time.

The two sides emphasized the historical tradition of close ties and mutual support; affirmed that the Vietnam-Laos relationship is a priceless asset of the two peoples, an objective necessity, a historical law and the greatest source of strength of the two parties and two countries that needs to be promoted and passed on to future generations.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed that, consistently, the Vietnam-Laos relationship always plays a particularly important role and is a top priority in Vietnam's foreign policy. The General Secretary emphasized a number of key contents to strengthen the relationship between the two parties and the two countries in the coming time.

Agreeing with the opinions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith affirmed the importance and strategic significance of the Vietnam - Laos relationship for the security and development of each country, for peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone highly appreciated the results of cooperation in the fields of economics, trade, investment, culture, education, science-technology, defense-security, and proposed a number of specific cooperation directions between the two countries in the coming time.

The two sides agreed that in the current context, the two parties and two countries need to continue to promote good traditions, strengthen solidarity, closely coordinate and support each other, continue to deepen political relations, which is the core of the overall orientation of relations between the two parties and two countries.

The two countries need to strengthen the pillars of cooperation in defense-security and foreign affairs; create breakthroughs in economic cooperation; promote cooperation in education, culture, science-technology and people-to-people exchange on the basis of promoting the potential and strengths of each country. Focus on cooperation between Party committees, ministries and branches of the Government, agencies of the National Assembly, the Fatherland Front, mass organizations, people's organizations and localities of the two countries.

The two sides affirmed the need to promote the effectiveness of existing mechanisms, continue to innovate and improve the effectiveness of cooperation in all fields, and at the same time build new appropriate mechanisms to further strengthen the special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos, for the practical interests of the people of each country, for peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
