This morning (November 27), General Secretary To Lam led a Central delegation to visit and chair a working session with the Standing Committee of the Hanoi Party Committee on the results of Party building, political system building, socio-economic development, national defense and security, and foreign affairs of the City in 2024 and the plan for 2025, period 2025-2030.
Also attending were Politburo member, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh; Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Bui Thi Minh Hoai; Chief of the Central Office Nguyen Duy Ngoc and leaders of a number of central departments, ministries and branches.
General Secretary To Lam visited and chaired a working session with the Standing Committee of the Hanoi Party Committee.
Concluding the meeting, General Secretary To Lam highly appreciated the results that Hanoi has achieved, especially the spirit of solidarity and unity of the Party Committee, government and people, overcoming all difficulties, resolutely implementing 3 strategic breakthroughs associated with synchronous deployment of socio-economic development goals and tasks.
Reviewing the key tasks that the city has been implementing, namely planning, public transport, environment, water treatment, waste treatment, air... The General Secretary emphasized that this is also an issue that the people are interested in and desire, so Hanoi needs to do better.
General Secretary To Lam suggested that Hanoi focus on improving environmental protection issues, overcoming pollution from car and motorbike emissions to build a green, clean, civilized and modern capital; focus on promoting the implementation of large projects to support business development, avoid projects being delayed, causing great waste of land and directly affecting business development.
Along with that, it is necessary to focus on renovating old apartment buildings, preparing social housing and resettlement housing to serve the site clearance work for the implementation of major projects of the Central and the city; carefully calculate when making plans, ensure a long-term vision, avoid the situation of resettlement houses and social housing that have just been built for a short time and have to be demolished, causing a huge waste of resources.
General Secretary To Lam speaks at the meeting.
General Secretary To Lam said that good resource management will serve the development of projects. The city's and businesses' projects cannot be developed because of the backlog of land and site clearance issues. There are projects that have been in place for decades, but recently the Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption and Waste has begun implementing them, and they are now effective. The three projects that need to be accelerated have brought in VND42,000 billion for the city.
"If we do not pay attention to such projects, resources will be lost and wasted. Therefore, land management must be focused, and the renovation of old apartments must be very fundamental," said the General Secretary.
Acknowledging Hanoi's outstanding achievements in developing healthcare and education, increasingly meeting the needs of the people, General Secretary To Lam also hopes that in the coming time, the City will continue to do a better job of taking care of people's health so that students can study in smart, modern schools.
Emphasizing that in recent times, Hanoi has done well in developing culture and tourism, General Secretary To Lam also hopes that in the coming time, Hanoi will have a more systematic direction to develop its tourism potential and advantages, especially promoting the values of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel Relic Site, in the spirit of Hanoi taking the lead in implementation with the active support of central departments and branches, and the wholehearted support of UNESCO.
Besides, Hanoi needs to continue to promote digital transformation, spreading this process to every citizen, to create the premise for building a digital society, digital citizens...
Appreciating Hanoi’s breakthrough proposals and recommendations related to socio-economic development, General Secretary To Lam also hoped that Hanoi would continue to pay attention to investing in overcoming environmental pollution, maintaining and promoting the value of rivers, including the Red River and To Lich River; and thoroughly treating all wastewater in the city.
General Secretary To Lam also stated that the city's wastewater treatment rate must reach only 65% by 2030, while the remaining 35% is still polluted. In 5 years, we must speed up the handling of this problem. For example, this year or next year, the other side of the To Lich River has been done, and this side must be accelerated, so that there is no gap in pollution prevention to meet the requirements.
" The same goes for garbage collection. From the garbage collection point, now at the end of the day, traffic jams occur because of garbage trucks, and workers work hard all night. What kind of improvement is needed? Technology and machinery must be introduced," the General Secretary added.
The General Secretary suggested that, immediately after the meeting with the Standing Committee of the Hanoi Party Committee, the Government, ministries and branches should also focus on resolving as soon as possible all difficulties of the capital in the fields of planning, land, environment, etc. so that Hanoi can maximize its inherent potential and develop commensurate with the role and position of the capital.
Acknowledging that Hanoi has done a good job in meeting voters in recent times, promptly recording and absorbing the thoughts and aspirations of the people, General Secretary To Lam believes and expects that the capital city of Hanoi will continue to develop stably, becoming increasingly green, clean, beautiful, civilized and modern; continuing to maintain its status as a "model, leading city of the whole country".
