General Secretary and President To Lam: Overseas intellectuals play an important role in realizing the country's development goals.

Meeting and chatting intimately with outstanding overseas experts and intellectuals from countries in the Francophone community, on the morning of October 5, local time, in Paris, on the occasion of his working trip to attend the 19th Francophone Summit and an official visit to France, General Secretary and President To Lam hopes that overseas intellectuals will continue to bring the world's advanced scientific achievements back to the country, training more talents for Vietnam.

At the meeting, overseas intellectuals shared their experiences, proposed ideas and policy suggestions on issues such as multilateral cooperation in technology, artificial intelligence; business establishment, growth and development; major challenges in developing the Internet of Things (IoT) to create economic growth; benefits of applying Blockchain technology in the field of medicine and health care.

Regarding the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) and data science (AS) applications, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Phuong, a Luxembourg expatriate, recommended that the Government consider strengthening multilateral cooperation in technology and artificial intelligence with Francophonie countries with similar conditions and needs as Vietnam in applications such as medical diagnosis, medical records, smart agricultural management, or weather and climate change forecasting.

Sharing her opinion on promoting sustainable business growth and development, Associate Professor Thai Thi Thanh Mai, an overseas Vietnamese in Canada, said that in the context of the startup and innovation economy, Vietnam needs to proactively catch up with the global trend in standardizing the requirements of the three standards (ESG - environment, society and governance) to measure the level of sustainable development and the impact of businesses on the community. Associate Professor Thai Thi Thanh Mai proposed that in addition to creating a suitable legal framework, a very important measure is to have an integrated policy on startup education, focusing on startup education for students, and there needs to be close coordination between the business sector and the training sector so that students have the opportunity to practice the knowledge they have learned.

Discussing the issue of developing the Internet of Things (IoT) to create economic growth, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Long, a Belgian expatriate, said that Vietnam is expected to have significant growth in the IoT market; by 2024, the expected revenue is estimated to reach 2.7 billion USD. The IoT market in Vietnam is expected to have a stable growth rate; this growth shows the increasing application of IoT technology in many industries in Vietnam.

Regarding the application of Blockchain technology in the field of medicine and health care, Dr. Vo Cam Quy, a Swiss expatriate, emphasized the urgent need for security solutions in the health care sector because this is the sector that records the highest rate of data breaches, accounting for about 26% of attacks. Practical applications of Blockchain will solve security problems in the medical field. Tracking the drug supply chain through blockchain helps prevent counterfeiting and ensure transparency in the distribution process.

Listening to the opinions, the General Secretary and President expressed his emotion, welcomed and highly appreciated the dedicated and responsible opinions of overseas intellectuals at the meeting, emphasizing that the contributions of overseas Vietnamese intellectuals to the host country and the homeland of Vietnam are very valuable resources.

Sharing with the delegates, the General Secretary and President said that the working trip to attend the 19th Francophone Summit aims to continue affirming Vietnam's role as a key and responsible member of the Francophone community in the Asia-Pacific region as well as Vietnam's active and responsible participation in the activities of the Francophone community in particular and the international community in general. The General Secretary and President affirmed that the achievements that Vietnam has achieved, in addition to the wise leadership of the Party, are also thanks to the efforts of the entire political system and all classes of people, the support of international friends, including the valuable contributions of the overseas Vietnamese community and the team of overseas Vietnamese experts and intellectuals.

Emphasizing that in the coming time, Vietnam will focus its efforts on the period of important strategic opportunities, "accelerating" to strive to successfully complete the goals set by the 13th National Party Congress to create a new era - the era of the Vietnamese nation's rise, the General Secretary and President expressed his joy at the potential of the overseas Vietnamese community, including the increasingly growing intellectual community, affirming the important role of the community in general and the intellectual community in particular in the process of realizing the country's development goals. The Party and State clearly identify " Talents are the vital energy of the nation ", overseas Vietnamese are valuable assets, important resources of the country.
