At the meeting, General Secretary and President To Lam shared his assessment of the special relationship between Vietnam and the United States, considering it a model of efforts to heal and build post-war relations.
With the upgrading of relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Vietnam-US relations have truly entered a new page. For the relationship between the two countries to reach the level it has today, Vietnam greatly appreciates the great contributions of the US Congress as well as “icebreakers” such as the late Senator John McCain, Senator Patrick Leahy, Senator John Kerry… in mending and promoting the relationship between the two countries.
The General Secretary and President affirmed that Vietnam is always consistent with the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, diversification, being a friend, reliable partner, active and responsible member of the international community; especially attaching importance to Vietnam's development goals and growth in the new era.
The General Secretary and President was pleased to acknowledge the positive results in implementing the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework over the past year and hoped that the US Congress would continue to support the strong and stable development of the new partnership framework.
Looking forward to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2025, the General Secretary and President hoped that the two countries would continue to actively and effectively implement the Joint Statement on upgrading relations in 2023, especially the US continuing to exchange and coordinate to soon recognize Vietnam's Market Economy Status; at the same time, closely cooperate and make positive and responsible contributions to the common work of the international community, responding to global issues.

This is an important basis for the two sides to strengthen mutual understanding and promote enhanced cooperation in all channels and fields, including new potential fields such as clean energy, liquefied natural gas (LNG), digital transformation, high technology, environment, climate change response, etc.
The Senator emphasized that in his position, he will continue to promote the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; promote the traditions left by previous generations of senators, especially in cooperation to overcome the consequences of war.
On this occasion, General Secretary and President To Lam also expressed his sincere thanks for the timely support of the American people for the Vietnamese people in their efforts to overcome the severe consequences of the recent super typhoon Yagi.
