General Secretary and President To Lam leaves Mongolia, next destination is to visit Ireland

On the afternoon of October 1, successfully concluding activities within the framework of the state visit to Mongolia, General Secretary and President To Lam boarded a special plane to leave the capital Ulaanbaatar.

At 5:00 p.m. (Vietnam time), the plane took off from Genghis Khan Airport in Mongolia.

During his visit to Mongolia, General Secretary and President To Lam held talks with President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh.

The head of the Vietnamese Party and State also met with National Assembly Chairman Dashzegviin Amarbayasgalan and Prime Minister Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene. In addition, he attended a number of other activities with overseas Vietnamese in Mongolia and local businesses.

During the meetings, senior leaders of the two countries highly appreciated the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Mongolia.

With confidence in the future of cooperation between the two countries, General Secretary and President To Lam and President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh decided to issue a joint statement upgrading the two countries' relations to a Comprehensive Partnership.

Mongolia affirmed that it always considers Vietnam an important partner in Southeast Asia, wishing to develop and expand mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields.

Vietnam affirms its importance in developing relations with Mongolia, respects Mongolia's peace-loving, open, self-reliant and multi-pillar foreign policy, the "third neighbor" policy and wishes to further promote bilateral relations in the coming time.

The two countries' senior leaders agreed that the development and deepening of relations between Vietnam and Mongolia is in line with the common interests of the two peoples, and makes an important contribution to ensuring peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

During the visit, witnessed by General Secretary and President To Lam and President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, ministries, branches and localities of the two countries signed seven cooperation documents.

Leaving Mongolia, Ireland will be the next stop for General Secretary and President To Lam. The visit takes place at the invitation of Irish President Michael D. Higgins.

This is the first state visit since Vietnam and Ireland established diplomatic relations. Therefore, the visit of General Secretary and President To Lam has received high expectations from both sides, with some comments saying that the trip is historic.

Speaking about the Vietnam-Ireland relationship, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son said that Ireland is a nation with many similarities to Vietnam in terms of history and patriotic traditions, will to rise up, and diverse and unique culture. The two sides have much room and potential to enhance cooperation and develop together.

Despite being an island nation with a population of just over 5.2 million, Ireland is considered the Silicon Valley of Europe as it is the regional headquarters of many large technology corporations such as Google and Meta.

According to Mr. Bui Thanh Son, within the framework of this visit, senior leaders of the two sides will discuss measures to promote extensive cooperation in many areas where Vietnam has demand and Ireland has strengths such as high-quality investment, science, technology, innovation, digital transformation, energy transformation, education and training, especially higher education.

Previously, during Mr. Bui Thanh Son's visit to Ireland in February 2024, the Irish side expressed its wish that Vietnam would soon open an embassy in Ireland to further strengthen bilateral relations.

Vietnam proposed that Ireland encourage businesses to invest in Vietnam in areas where Ireland has strengths and is consistent with Vietnam's socio-economic development orientation such as digital transformation, energy transformation, high-tech agriculture, etc.

General Secretary and President To Lam receives Mongolian businesses

On the afternoon of October 1, before leaving Ulaanbaatar, General Secretary and President To Lam received Mongolia's representative economic organizations.

Attending the meeting, in addition to officials from both sides, there were also representatives of the “Food Revolution Initiative” organization and leaders of 10 typical Mongolian enterprises in the fields of import and export, energy, minerals, transportation, logistics, tourism, education, labor, agriculture, etc.

At the reception, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that Vietnam has now become one of the 40 largest economies in the world, among the top 20 economies with the world's leading trade scale, and ranked 32nd in the top 100 strongest national brand values ​​in the world.

Regarding Vietnam and Mongolia, the General Secretary and President highly appreciated the recent organization of many cooperation exchange activities between economic agencies and enterprises of the two countries. He affirmed that the two countries have great potential and opportunities to develop strongly, integrate into the movement of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the global transformation of the digital economy, green growth with renewable energy, new energy, biotechnology, and information technology.

General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed that the State and Government of Vietnam always welcome and applaud Mongolian businesses to expand cooperation with Vietnam. He affirmed that the success of Mongolian businesses is also the success of Vietnam.
