General Secretary and President visits Cuba: Continuing the heroic history of Vietnam - Cuba

The visit to Cuba by General Secretary and President To Lam contributes to continuing the glorious and beautiful history of Vietnam - Cuba, bringing the relationship between the two countries to a new stage. At the invitation of First Secretary and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and his wife, General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife will pay a State visit to Cuba from September 25-27. Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for External Relations Le Hoai Trung said that this is the first visit to Cuba by General Secretary and President To Lam as the head of the Party and State. Cuba is one of the first countries that General Secretary and President To Lam will visit, in the context that the two countries are preparing to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1960 - 2025).

Over the past 65 years, the traditional solidarity, support and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba have been constantly cared for, consolidated, promoted and developed in many fields. During the years when the Vietnamese people waged the resistance war for national liberation, Cuba has always been a symbol and a leader in the world people's movement to unite and support Vietnam's just struggle, providing Vietnam with valuable and effective support and assistance. For its part, Vietnam has always actively strengthened solidarity, cohesion and made efforts to promote and improve the effectiveness of comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties and the two countries. Leaders of the two Parties and the two States have repeatedly emphasized that the relationship between the two countries is a "symbol of the times". The Head of the Central External Relations Commission emphasized that the visit of General Secretary and President To Lam aimed to implement the foreign policy of the 13th National Congress, thereby affirming that Vietnam attaches great importance to and wishes to develop relations with traditional friendly countries. The visit demonstrates the solidarity, loyalty, exemplary, and consistent spirit of the Party, State, and people of Vietnam with the Party, State, and people of Cuba. The Party, State, and people of Vietnam wish to accompany, cooperate, and develop together to continuously consolidate, promote, and develop the traditional solidarity and special friendship with the Party, State, and people of Cuba.

Mr. Le Hoai Trung informed that the highest leaders of the two Parties and the two States will discuss and evaluate the achievements and cooperation results between Vietnam and Cuba in the past time. The leaders of the two sides will propose directions to strengthen and improve the effectiveness of cooperation in all fields, bringing the comprehensive cooperation relationship to a new stage of increasingly substantive and sustainable development, for the benefit of the people of the two countries. General Secretary and President To Lam will hold talks and meetings with key leaders of Cuba. In addition, General Secretary and President To Lam and the delegation will also lay flowers at the statues of President Ho Chi Minh and Cuban national hero Jose Marti. The delegation will visit a number of economic establishments, including cooperation and investment projects of Vietnamese enterprises; meet with friends and young generations of the two countries. Along with that, there will be flower-laying activities, expressing gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh as well as to the leaders of Cuba. "Through the visit, Vietnam affirms its desire to continue to inherit and promote the valuable legacy of relations between the two countries, on the solid foundation pioneered by President Ho Chi Minh and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro. Bilateral meetings and exchanges between General Secretary and President To Lam and senior leaders of Cuba will help enhance mutual understanding and enhance coordination on major issues, thereby further consolidating the traditional and special relationship between the two countries," affirmed Head of the Central External Relations Commission Le Hoai Trung. Accompanying General Secretary and President To Lam are leaders of the Party, Government, representatives of Party committees, Government agencies, and localities, and there will be bilateral meetings, contacts, and working sessions. Thereby, the two sides will jointly evaluate the results of cooperation in recent times, propose specific directions and measures to strengthen multi-faceted cooperation, including economic and trade.

Mr. Le Hoai Trung said: "Vietnam is currently the second largest trade partner and the largest investment partner in Cuba from the Asia and Oceania regions. This is also an opportunity for the two sides to continue to enhance mutual understanding and coordinate on international issues for the benefit of both countries and peoples in the current period". In addition, activities between the two Ladies and friendly exchanges with the people and young generations of Cuba will also vividly demonstrate the special relationship and affection between the two Parties, two States and peoples of the two countries. The Head of the Central External Relations Commission believes that the visit will be a great success, contributing significantly to strengthening the special friendship and close comradeship between the two peoples. The results achieved during the visit will contribute to continuing the glorious and beautiful history between the two countries and bringing the Vietnam - Cuba relationship to a new stage of more substantial and sustainable development.
